I'm scared, once of my Guinea pigs fell, might of have been a meter, at first after I took her back into the cage she was spasming ALLOT, but it calmed down in minutes and she is now acting normal again, she jumped around like a bunny after coming back into the cage instead of walking, does anyone know about any payment plans (the only way for me to handle this, I'm 17, I only get 1000 kr a month) in Sweden? Will she be ok, do they tend to survive such a fall? I'm so scared I just wanna die...

She does need to see a vet, is there any way your parents could help you out? Shock is the biggest risk here though she does need her teeth checking too. If she is bunny hopping she may be in pain so she is likely to need an anti-inflammatory. Your vet may let you pay in instalments if you ask them.

I agree with Helen, a visit to the vet's is essential. Please phone your vet in the morning to book an appointment, you can discuss about payments then. I would put her in a separate cage or pet carrier over night so that she can be kept as calm as possible. Check her mouth for blood & also check her front teeth are OK. If she seems cool please keep her warm.

My mom just keeps on saying that there is no payment plans in Sweden whatsoever, I'll call some vets tomorow and see what they say, right now it's midnight and I'm unable to do anything this night (11:50 PM) and everyone is asleep :(

Nothing useful to say, but i just wanted to say how sorry i am and i hope your piggy will be better soon x

Do you have any animal charities who would help with the payment if you have a low wage? Do you have a local guinea pig rescue who may be able to offer help? Can you keep her close by you overnight?

Poor piggy - and what a shock! I hope you can get her checked over, fingers crossed for you both x

I made a donation thingy for my piggies on gofundme, I don't have any really close shelters, most of them are a long ride somwhere that I can't figure out, it's car, either way, if the vet denies me a payment plan, I'll mail them and ask. Well, I have another cage, but it's unclean and I abandoned it when I got my DIY cage done form a bookshelf, so all I have is a box right now, my mom tells me to not hold her for a few days, is this true?

It would be best not to hold her too much because she may have broken bone or spinal injury. Is she walking OK?

She was only hopping at the first 1-2 minutes or so, she is walking normally as of right now, a bit hard to see as she is resting right now. I can see that she can still bend around just fine to eat her cecos, though.

Perhaps she may be OK. I have known guinea pigs drop similar heights & be OK but I have also known guinea pigs drop much lower drops & break a bone. If you keep her comfortable overnight she may be OK in the morning. If you can't attach water bottle to the box please give her some wet veggies like cucumber. Sorry but I've got to go now. Good Night. I'll check for update in the morning.

Good Morning, How is your guinea pig today?

Hi, just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear this has happened and I hope you have some luck finding a vet to help. I had a guinea fall approx a similar height straight onto the patio in my old garden, it was horrendous but luckily all she suffered was one broken tooth and a bit of grazing on her nose. I really hope your piggy is ok

She's eating and walking fine, while she was in the box, which ended up being a pet box commonly used for cats (but nowadays for guinea pigs) she was just laying down and resting, I think she was sleeping, but with open eyes.
I'll still try and call and ask the vets what they think.

I remember my ralphie fell from from his hutch once, quite high, he was okay other than a broken tooth which grew back to normal length in about 1-2 weeks.

It seems like she has been lucky this time but she should be checked by a vet if there is any possibility that she is injured. Please let us know how she is later.

She is still appearing healthy, eats and walks around, is able to lay down comfortably, too. I feel so darn bad, tough, I kinda wanna shoot myself for it because I paniced badly abnd I feel like I am the one to blame for a guinea pig jumping away from me.

I'm so glad she seems better. You don't need to take this out on yourself though. Who will look after your pigs if you are not around to look after them! These things happen to all of us.

I think it would be a good idea to have a back up plan for any future vet emergencys though, could you get vets fees insurance, or start some savings in case you are in this situation again?

Looks like she's had a lucky escape this time. It may be a good idea to get you guinea pigs registered with a vet & check on their fees & credit planes in case you do need urgent treatment for one of your guinea pigs in future. I hope she has no bad after effects from her fall.
