I came home today to the biggest shock of my mind my guinea pig Gilbert and my Guinea pig Dandy were fighting except of course it's not a fair fight because Dandy is so much smaller then Gibby so anyway I rescued Dandy and looked him over he has a lot of scraps and scratches and cuts and bruises and he's bleeding a lot plus he has two rips in his ears anyway I'm going to the vet 2morrow just to make sure he's all good but do you think he will be okey overnight

I don't really have experience of this but I think if blood has been drawn you need to keep them separate. On the injuries question I've tagged @Wiebke . I don't know if she is online right now.

You mentioned recently that you'd had some surprise baby guinea pigs I think? If one if these male piggies is the Dad, that might explain the fall out. I don't think males who have been with females mix well with other males afterwards?

The one that is hurt could maybe do with some painkillers. Can you not get him to the vets today? May need antibiotics as well

Yes Gilbert is coco and hazelnuts dad but he has nothing to do with Dandy.
Yea don't worry I separated him right away, he seems fine tho acting pretty normal but I know that piggies hide there hurts and no I can't get him to the vets tonight it's not possible because we don't have an emergency vet were I live and even if there was one close by I can't drive and also buses don't run this late

Dandy is fine right now, still shocked but he's resting in his pigaloo I pampered him and gave him some extra veggies, I know I ppb shouldn't cause to much veg can lead to problems but I felt bad and so I gave him some veg.
Gilbert is just fine the little stinker, I mean he has some cuts but there's no bleeding on him or hair loss, Gilbert pulled a huge chuck of Dandys beautiful hair out but anyway he's way better off then Dandy is.

Aww I feel so bad for Dandy. Hope the vet checkup goes well tomorrow! Are you taking Gilbert to the vet, too?

Please separate your two boys and have them checked over by your vet re. deep bites.

You can make saline solution for disinfecting at home by mixing 1 teaspoon of salt into 1 pint of boiled cooled water; that should take care of the wounds until a vet can treat them.

After a fight like that I would not try re-introductions; it is highly unlikely that they will go back again without further fights. Size has got nothing to do with whether boars will get along or not; it all depends on whether the adult personalities are compatible or not. Can you keep them side by side?

It's not a big deal because Dandy was a foster pig and once I'm sure all his wounds are taking care of and he's good again and he's been seen by a vet of course. I'll put him back up for adoption, Gilbert is my oldest guinea pig so I could never rehome him.
The whole reason I tried Gilbert with Dandy was because my other oldest piggy Hodgins who used to be cage mates with Gibby when he was a baby, is now BFFS with my newest Boar pig Blitz so I thought maybe Dandy and Gibby could be friends but as always Gilbert is a stinker I guess he will remain friendless for life.

Boars can fall out anytime during the first two weeks of bonding. Some boars can be extremely difficult to virtually impossible to bond, but as long as they have next door company of their own kind, they are are OK.

@Wiebke is my understanding that once a boar has mated he can't live with another boar wrong? Nothing turns on the answer - I'm just curious. Quite possible I've somehow picked up a piece of misinformation.
@Caviequeen glad you've been able to separate them easily and it isn't going to be a big drama for you to have to do that. Hope they all get better quickly.

You will really struggle introducing a freshly mated boar to male companion, as that is a clear demotion in status. Breeder boars that have been shuffled around several times without concern for their emotions and behaviours by ignorant breeders can struggle.

However, many rescued boars from mixed uncontrolled breeding situations can be paired up for character compatibility and rehomed safely. It is very much a question of personality and proper respect of piggy etiquette rather than mating.

aah that makes more sense. Thanks. Sorry if my original comments were misleading.

I know of a number of ex-breeder boars that now live happily with a boarmate, but a couple of my neutered "husboars" ended up with the snip because they kept falling out with any boy they were introduced to, without any sows involved...

Just wanted to update everyone, when to the vets yesterday and got Dandy all Checked over he's a okey except of course for the bites but the vet gave me some painkillers and something to put on the wound so it would get infected.
Gilbert also came to the vet with me, and because Gibby has been to the vet in the last week or so he did not charge me for my checkup just for the stuff to rub on his wound it only cost me like 80$ for the whole visit man I love my vet.
