Hi,

Me again.....

Just wondering what we should always have in the house in case of an emergency, like a guinea pig first aid kit?

Any comments would be much appreciated!:)

syringe's of varying sizes
Oxbow critical care.
Ivermectin
old towels to wrap them in
nail clippers
Fiberflex
eye ointment
this is just some of the bits i can remember in mine.

in my first aid kit i have
critical care formula
science recovery
syringes
cotton wool
vetrap
eye wash
electrolytes
iodine
gauze pads
wound wipes
fungal shampoo
fungal cream
mite spray and drops
probiotic
osteocare tablets
wound powder
insect bite ointment
scissors
gloves
scales
tape
towels
its a very big tub!:))

Ohhh sooo sooo much to think about, will have to get it all gradually, they are on vet bed all the time, so that shouldnt be a problem, just wanted to get some essentials, so thanks all, will start googling now! :) x

Plus..

Plus; cystitis medicine in sachets which can be made up and given to piggies - (directions from Peter Guerney in his book)
Stocking type bandage
Olive oil
Styptic powder for toenails

Mine isn't in a tub, I'm too messy - it's all over the house!

Mites can only be killed with Xeno 50 or 450 as well as injections from the vet. Lice is cured by Lice N Easy from Gorgeous Guineas. I've never used petshop sprays as I'm not sure of the chemical content.

Here is what I have, I took a lot from Peter Gurney so some of it may not be releven to all.

Syringes
Critical Care
Vick
Olbas Oil
Sudafed
Hot water bottle
Old towels
Barley
Arrowroot powder
Diocalm
Dioralyte
Olive oil
Optrex
Daktarin
Calcium tablets
Charcoal tablets
Liquid paraffin
Raspberry leaf tablets
Metatone tonic
Honey
Lice N Easy
Xeno 450
Bandages
Clippers
Brushes

As I say some of it isn't relevant like the raspberry leaf pills for pregnant sows but as I foster I have them just incase I get one or find one on a free add. Liquid Paraffin is for poisioned piggies as is the charcoal tablets, would probably never need it.

Also I can't stress enough the importance of checking the dates on medication. When Pearl was ill we had Dioralyte but it was out of date so had to run around getting more! Sadly it was too late for her anyway. So when buying herbal remedies just have a look at the date and see if it is worth it. :)

i use the bob martin my little friend mite spray and it kills both mites and fleas and i have used it for quite a while with alot of sucess even on piggies with quite bad mite problems including the 'preston piggies'.
