So I recently switch over from Oxbow Young Guinea Pig food to their Adult guinea Pig food. The result being that I started breaking out when ever my guinea pigs mouth area touch’s my skin and I wake up (and live through the day) with red eyes, and dryness around them. I switched over to a different brand yesterday (Of course the other stuff is still in my house) and it’s been getting better. But is there any other brands I could try that would be good for my piggy?

Sorry to hear about your reaction! There is a thread comparing the different pellets. Maybe have a read there and see which you want to try. You can always do a search to see what people say about them.

When switching over be careful about just cutting one out for another. It’s ideal that you do a gradual change over to the new one. I think (don’t quote me!) it’s to do with their tummies.

I personally use harringtons for my pigs, who all started off on burgess excel.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll be sure to read the other thread

I’m not entirely sure at the moment but the pellets were the most recent change, about two weeks ago and that’s when the symptoms started. I’ve also been using the same hay for at least a month. I know it’s kind of weird but that’s what all the evidence points to

Mine are also on Harringtons pellets and love them. Velvet would sell her soul for Harringtons pellets she loves them so much.

With allergic reactions the way forward is always trial and error. Please avoid direct physical contact with your skin.
Most often it is the particles of urine on the skin and hair that trigger skin allergies.

The change of pellets is likely coincidental with the onset of your allergic reaction.

I personally use science selective grain free and my girls all love them, often begging at the bars when they know it's pellet time :)

I give my piggies Oxbow brand hay and pellets, I haven't had any reactions to them. Occasionally, my nose will run when I take hay out of the bag. Am I the only one who has had that happen too?

The only type of allergies I've been starting to have are seasonal allergies from pollen.
