I have 2 boys, they are one this month but the win has stopped Wheaking loudly for food but us wheaking quietly a lot if the time, even when in his bed which is worrying me? He doesn’t sound wheezy, his eyes nose etc are all clean and dry but there is definitely a change in his vocalising behaviour? He is eating still. The only change to anything is that they have been outside in their playpen for a few hours in nice days but not in direct sun and it’s tiotally enclosed. Why is he making so much noise? Torak & Kasi mummy

Hi! Please always switch from weighing once weekly to weighing daily at the same time if you are worried about a potential illness, like befor you give the evening veg, in order to monitor the weight intake in case it is the start of an illness. Start topping up with syringe feed if a piggy loses more than 50g in a matter of days and see a vet for a check.

Perhaps something has frightened him? Piggies become a bit quieter from about 4 months onwards when they are no longer quite as inexperienced and vulnerable to predators.

A vet visit is always a good idea if you are worried about your piggy. A vet would rather see a piggy with nothing wrong and an anxious owner than a piggy with an owner who has left it too late.

@Toraks mummy did you get the name from Michelle Paver's books? I love those books
Anyways if you're worried it's probably best to see the vet, to put your mind at rest and make sure piggy is ok :)

So went to vets, took Kasi too as thought if Torak was I’ll, Kasi May be too as they live together! I was right to get behavioural change checked as both have respiratory infection 😩😩 now on meds! I have recently changed from Back 2 Nature substrate to Fitch (after reading recommendations) but don’t think it’s as absorbent and may if cintributed to them getting sick! So going back to Back 2 nature! Going back to vets to recheck in 10 days once meds finished.

I'm so glad you've found out what's wrong. Your quick decision, that one of your piggies was ill. Will ensure that your piggies will be back to there old self in no time.
Make sure you bring them indoors if they are outside piggies, & syringe feed them if they are not eating probably.
I don't have much knowledge of URIs but I thought it was airborne. Well done for catching there illness.

They are indoor piggies and both on meds now, though Kasi is a bit of a nightmare as he is not so easy to pick up as Torak! Fine once you’ve got him and takes meds fine but just skittish in his cage! 😩

Hope the meds take effect quickly for them and they both make s full recovery
The vet said all of Toraks lymph nodes were inflamed too and I noticed he seems to be more vocal an uncomfortable when peeing, which is making me feel so sad for him, I hope the antibiotics help him soon. Kasi was/is showing no symptoms and both are still very active (even squabbling as they do at times) and eating well. Vet said to give them red peppers for vitamin c but they won’t touch them! I give them blueberries and lots of fresh veg etc plus grass/dandelions regularly.
