Hi there,
Tonight we are very sad - our 7 year old Guinea has just been put to sleep at the vets - she has been fine - but I brought her in from her garden run to find some blood on her bottom and took her straight to the vets. She had a tumour in her lower abdomen, and now she has gone. Her eyes were bright, and she was happily munching on a carrot on the way to the vets but I knew it was going to be very sad.
My main worry now is her daughter who is about 6, I am hoping to rehome her with someone who has a guinea herd, but have a worry about her fitting in. We have brought her hutch inside tonight and I have popped a hot water bottle in with her, so she has a warm soft thing to cuddle up to.
I'm just so very sad for her.
Does anyone have any other advice that may help my lonely girl?
Thank you

You could take her on a date to find her another sow to keep her company. A lot of reputable rescues offer dating for piggies so that they can find someone who they get along with.
So sorry for your loss.

I don't have advice but I'm sure someone will be along soon to offer you the advice you need, just wanted to say sorry for your loss she lived to a good age and you will always have good memories of her.

If you were looking to rehome here (as in not with you, which would be understandable, as things change :) ) Then you could look into a rescue, There are lots on here that could give you some information.

On the other hand, if you were looking to get her a friend, lots of rescues offer a dating service where your girl could meet and choose her own friend. :)

I'm very sorry for your loss. RIP piggie.

As others have said you could take your 6yr old dating with a rescue so she could pick herself a new friend. Whereabouts do you live? Someone may be able to suggest a rescue close to you.

Once again very sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, I am in the same situation with my 3 1/2 year old girl who lost her friend 3 days ago. I would definitely keep watch on her, and I read that it's recommended to weigh her every day for at least a week to make sure she's not losing too much weight - it will be hard to put it back on! Reading GuineaLynx (I don't have the link now as I'm on my phone) also suggested perhaps changing things in her hutch - maybe a new toy, trying some new foods, a different feeding schedule, so she's less likely to dwell on her loss. It gives you chance to focus on how she's coping alone before finding her a friend.
I would definitely email round your local rescues/make some phone calls to see if they have someone who might be suitable. Then you can take your girl and see who she gets on with.
Good luck :-)

Hi i'm really sorry to hear about your dear Guinea 8...8...8...
If you feel up to it you might like to post a thread about her in our Rainbow Bridge section.
You could also put a little teddy or stuffed toy in (make sure no chewable eyes or anything can come off..... piggies as you know are chewers!) this might help a little :)
You've done the right thing bringining her in, you can keep an eye on her that way :)

Little wheeeeeeks and hugs for you all XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Thank you to all you kind pig lovers - understanding how sad it is to lose a loved one..
My left behind pig sat on my lap this afternoon and talked to me, and I have settled her in her hutch with a hot water bottle. I am hoping that she will have a new lovely home with a small herd of pigs with the kind pig carer who looks after her if we go away - although it will be very sad to say goodbye to her, I have to put her feelings first and feel certain she will feel happier with a new pigly family.
:...

I think you are doing the right thing for your piggie :) And if you know the person taking her, you will have lovely updates on her :)

Goodluck.

Guinea pig grief - happy ending

To all those who posted such kind comments to me when Megan the pig died last week - We have now re-homed Poppy at a lovely Guinea Pig loving family who have 6 pigs! Poppy immediately bonded with a large brown shiney pig who is in piglet, and since then I have had reports she is settling in, feeding normally and accepted by the herd - I feel so so happy that I made the choice I did and she can feel loved and cosy again in her new home.:(|)

awe bless glad to hear that poppy found a loving family XX and is now happy , hope your doing okay .
