Do these exist? All pet groomers I have seen are for dogs but when my boys grow up and need their fur cutting, I don't want to do it - I would sooner get them done properly.

If these exist, what prices are we looking at and are there any in Lancs?

Cheers! :)

i know you said you dont want to but alot of love and bonding go into grooming our babies and they usually prefer there owners to do it rather than a stranger, there is nothing more cute than seeing there cute hairdo after so much effort, cutting the belly and butt hair still leaves the look of a beautiful longhaired pig,all of us cut our own pigs hair and its rare to see a bad haircut
I'm not sure they have even invented piggy groomers:))

It is on my to do list...when I get my own place I'll be setting up a guinea pig grooming business! (Next to the health clinic, holiday boarding and the rest :)))

I think there are some out there, although not many who will do a full haircut as well as bathing and nail trimming.

If you were near me I would consider doing it for you!

Hehe, I bet I sound so stupid! :))

With them being so nervous and jumpy, if this never stops, I will have problems cutting them. :(

I have noticed their little bellies are a little wee stained. There is no way at this stage, I could bath them, would an unperfumed baby wipe be ok?

Ah thanks! I am nervous enough doing my hammy's bum area. Why do I keep buying high maintenance pets?! :))

I have heard some people use baby wipes to "spot clean" their piggies. Not sure I would do it myself as it is normal for most pigs to be a little pee-stained. Baths are the best thing but I do understand why you're nervous!

I agree with Bonnie that it is quite a bonding process, however, if you aren't confident and have jumpy pigs I can quite understand why you would rather have someone else to do it!

I run a pet hotel for piggies (and buns) and am frequently asked to give my visitors a wash and brush up whilst they are here. Funnily enough, most of them behave themselves, probably helped by the fact that it isn't mum or dad doing the bathing!:))

I have used unscented baby wipes to clean dirty buns bottoms (i.e. the type of bunny that refuses to keep itself clean on a day to day basis), but it's not something I have tried on a piggy. Like Laura I tend to bath them, sometimes only doing "bottom baths" if it is only that area that is a bit grubby.

The trick is to be calm, have EVERYTHING you are going to need to hand, kit yourself out in a waterproof pinny and have plenty of towels to hand. I find putting a bath towel in the bottom of the bath works well and by using the bath rather than the sink they can't jump out - and yes some try, they are like little bars of slippery soap when they are wet! You can even put a plastic washing up bowl in the bath, a couple of mine like to rest their little front paws on the side whilst I bath them!

Good luck, it really isn't that bad a job.:)

A short back and sides

Hi, I think all the advice has been given by the more experienced members already but I have to say I was also very nervous of bathing my hairy (and usually grubby) sheltie.
To be honest the first few times were the worst (for both of us!) as I was scared of how he would react and whether I would put him off me for life, but now we both enjoy our pamper sessions with the Gorgeous Guineas products and he even lets me blow dry him - although I use my daughters low blow hairdryer.
As for cutting, well he won't win any beauty contests (last time I was a bit short around his man bits :x which made my little girl cry!) but it is what I call a practical hairstyle and I hope to improve with practise.rolleyes
