I got a call yesterday from my sons school asking if we can have the guinea pigs during the holidays.....of course have said yes! ") Haven't told huby yet though! :x
Am excited but bit nervous too as they are boys and have got to keep them away from my girlies!
If anyones got any tips/advice it would be welcome x

Hi. I would probably handle the boys always before the girls in case it causes them to get aggressive with each other. Definately keep them away from the girls as you have suggested - maybe in separate rooms so that they cant smell them, as I understand that this can set them off too.

xx

Having had several 'school pigs' handed in I would treat them for mites unless you know for certain that they have already been treated, keep them in a different room if at all possible from your own pigs and follow good quarantine procedure - deal with them after your pigs so not to cross contaminate, and thorough hand washing after handling.

It would be so sad if they brought something in with them that caused problems for your pigs, so better safe than sorry.

Oooh good points thanks! Will be really careful.
They are rather lovely and very confident in comparison to mine already! Will try and get some pics while they are here.

Aww! I remember having the school guinea pigs for the holidays when I was little. Ginger & Pickles, I think they were called. :))

I don't want to give them back they are so friendly and come to the bars to get food from me and everything.
The bad part of it though is their cage really isn't big enough and I'm dreading having to speak to the school about it but its not fair on them

I wish my school had guinea pigs! We had a hamster that bit me and stick insects that escaped in my room and had babies in there!

I'm sure they'll love having their Christmas holiday with you :D
