is it possible to keep a Guinea pig indoor in winter but summer them out in an outdoor hutch or does this cause too much strain?

Thanks in advance

Sharon

Yes, try to move them when the weather is mild though. A sudden, extreme change in temperature can be a shock too their wee systems.

Room temperature inside is about 17-23 degree Celsius. So, so long as outside is about this temperature its shouldn't be too much of a difference. However, I think it's much better to have the hutch (or whatever you keep them in outside) in a shed or insulate it in someway (perhaps covering the mesh if you have other ways of getting the ventilation). This will take out the extremes of temperature between night time and day time.

Had to play in a marching band at a football (American football NOT soccer) game while it was sleeting/snowing. I survive on the hot hands in my gloves. Then it went into over time and we ended up standing out a foot deep in snow for 3 hours. While my pigs were inside curled up in cuddle cups all warm and cozy...

i have mine outside in the spring and summer ,bring them into a shed in the autumn and winter.piggies do adapt.i spend alot of time in the garden in the warmer months.it is easy for me to place them into there runs !

I wish mine could stay outside in a hutch but here it is 32 Celsius then drops to about 4 Celsius in the summer and in the winter it gets down to -23 Celsius. I don't think my pigs would enjoy those temps. Though on the rare occasion it isn't to cold or hot they go outside to their run.

Hi Sharon, I think that's a brilliant idea, I feel sorry for all those little piggies outside with little cold toes. You need to bring them in now & just bring the house temperature slowly up over 3 or 4 days. Watch it though, once in they will probably stay in all year round. Photos of your piggies would be good.
