Hubby took my piggy to vet last night been told he has an ear polyp. His advice for now is to leave it, been given meds and has a check up next thursday. He did tell us that doing operation is not ideal due to it being to close to his brain and having to remove a big chunk of the ear canal.

Anyone elses piggy had this? If so what happened, what treatment, hows your piggy now? Thank you

I am trying to clean it each time i give meds - i hope that wont make it worse.

I did read when i did google about applying sudocrem - think this is okay in my piggy case?

I am very sorry for you; what a nasty situation!

In six years of being of being active on guinea pig forums, I have never come across one, they are THAT rare.

The vet did say they were rare more common in cats. Ive had guinea pigs since i was 12, I'm now 25 and this is a first too. Browsing on google it isnt bringing much back what i am finding itsn't good outcome.

Ive added where i am hope its worked. Thanks for the reply.

Hey, any chance you could post a picture? I'm sorry to hear your piggy has one too.

A friend of mine had a very successful removal of a "wart" from her guinea pig's ear. It wasn't refered to as a polyp, but I think that's what it was. It grew so big it was blocking the ear canal and causing difficulties with drainage. The vet was planning to open up the ear canal, but in the end she was able to use laser removal, which cauterises as it goes so no stitches were necessary and the final wound was very small, where the polyp had been attached to the ear canal. It would be worth talking to your vet about the possibility of laser surgery.
