So I have two male guinea pigs
One of them is 6-7 months and the other is about 1 year old. I’ve been noticing that they are peeing a yellowish orangey cloudy pee....cloudy pee has always been something they do since I’ve gotten them. I’ve taken them to the vet several times becuase they sneeze quite a bit and becuase of that pee. Everything is normal and they are a cavvy savvy vet. They said that it might be the newspaper that I use and since they step on their poop and make it dust that might be the reason they sneeze. They said that cloudy pee is normal but o should get them out of the cage more to give them more excercise. Everything is normal. But I’ve noticed that the pee is becoming a yellowish orangey cloudy tint. I do use a reddish color newspaper so I don’t know if that might be the cause? Maybe the tint of the newspaper is making it orange? I’m not sure. But everything is completely normal. They are eating, drinking, and moving around. They do fight a bit but I stop it most of the time. Pls help🙏

Do they have any other bedding other than newspaper?
It is possible that it is the colour coming out of the paper though. Has the vet tested their urine?
I have never heard of them stepping on poop and turning it to dust and that causing them to sneeze? That sounds a bit odd to me.
What is their diet like?

I imagine it is just normal dominance rather than fighting (if they are full on blood drawing fighting then you need to srparate them a permamently) - if it just rumble strutting, chasing and mounting, then don’t stop them, it is normal behaviour that they need to go through it. If you stop them, then they will just start all over again.

So you see...when the poop turns into a hard consistency like it’s dried up...they are a little messy and start stepping on it...thus they step on it ALOT and it completely turns into a nasty dust that smells just horrendous

oh and yes, maybe around next week I will be getting some CareFresh bedding to see if that affects the sneezing

Ok. Mine are bedded on hay so I guess they don’t squash poop the same way and it falls through the hay to the bottom of the hutch and doesn’t get trodden directly on.
If it’s all been tested and a vet is happy then I wouldn’t be too concerned.
Carefresh would be good. If they only have newspaper at the moment, then it isn’t very absorbent so something like carefresh will be better for them to walk on.

I use newspaper underneath and lots of hay on top. The wees and poos drop down through the hay onto the newspaper and soaks away. Cloudy yellow white wees are the normal. It oxidise to orange with the air after a while, all fine and normal. Fleece bedding in playpen, we get cream wee stains, quite normal. Enjoy your piggies and don’t worry too much x

Okay thank you so much! I have been so worried that they are sick and that they might end up the same why my other piggie passed away which was by a undetected bladder stone... but I’m glad to hear that it is probably just me overreacting😀

Don’t worry we are all the same lol we all worry, and need a bit of reassurance 😀
