Hi so I had one of my pigs at the vets and she said he has live so he's being treated with spot on treatment, but his cage mate can't be treated until he goes in for a weight check.
I'm just hoping for some advice on what can be done to help with the lice?
All of their fleece has been washed at a high temperature and so have their hidy tunnels. The vet also suggested to make sure to all the areas they could have been in contact with have been cleaned. She was going to give me flea treatment for carpets etc but she wasn't sure if it would work on lice or if it was safe for guinea pigs.

If anyone can please help with any advice it will be really appreciated.

Hi! Your vet has to be very careful - insecticidal products that are OK for larger pets can be toxic to guinea pigs. Guinea pigs don't get fleas. Normally, a normal deep clean of the carpet is enough if you have a larger infestation.

Hopefully, the spot-on will do the trick, but you need the full course of three rounds to be fully effective. Unlike mange mites, lice only feed on blood and do not burrow into the skin, so the ivermectin is not as efficient. In a stubborn case, your vet can also consider a suitable shampoo. We have found that lice-'n'easy from gorgeous guineas is doing effective. Please liaise with your vet and be aware that you have to wait 48 hours after any topical treatment before you can give another skin product to give it time to work fully.

How old are your piggies and how long have you had them?

Hi they are both 10 months old and I'll look into the lice n easy you're speaking about

A 10 months of age, your boys should be old enough for ivermectin. it should not be given during a pregnancy and ideally while nursing unless the infestation is very bad.
