Tonight, I was going to get my guinea pig out of his cage for floor time, but he wouldn’t budge. He stayed still and didn’t come to me which every other day he is more than happy to run on over to me. He didn’t move in floor time, and as I was getting ready to put him back in his head started to bob back and fourth almost. I picked him up and set him in my lap. His heart rate became unbalanced, it was very fast and uneven. His breathing was very strained and wheezy. When I listened to his breathing it sounded like there was something in his throat. Then it passed and his breathing and heart rate went back to normal. I have never had this happen, and his brother was completely fine, no signs of strained breathing. I don’t think this is a seizure but I really don’t know. He hasn’t shown any signs of illness besides this. Please help me!

:agr: anything out of the ordinary should be checked by a vet. A vet would rather see a pet with nothing wrong and a anxious owner than an ill pet where the owner has left it too late. If nothing is wrong at least you will have been reassured.

I have unfortunately experienced seizures twice now. Both times the pigs were, sorry for the visual, flailing and paddling with their front legs. The vet gave them drugs to come out of it and assured me that as disturbing as it was, they were unconscious and didn't feel anything.

Please take your piggy to the vet if you suspect a seizure. It might be due to a brain injury, tumour or hypoglycemia. Even if not, as above said vet would rather have an anxious owner. I also don't mean to worry.
