So my guinea pig Gary has been very strange. He looked really fat, and his belly did a weird thing. You know when guinea pigs squeak and their belly puffs up slightly and then goes normal after the squeak? Well, Gary did this but he wasn't squeaking. I got really scared, and Google DID NOT HELP. He has not flopped on his side or had seizures, so I'm not sure what happened. Please don't hesitate to give me advice.
Many thanksIMG_20190208_162945_781.webp

Welcome to the Forum.
:wel:

I am sorry to hear your guinea pig is not feeling well and appears to be having stomach issues.

The problem is that it is simply not possible to diagnose a medical condition based on a photo over the Internet.
Guinea pigs can suffer with a variety of stomach issues, and he really does need to see a vet.

Is he eating and drinking normally?
Has he lost any weight?
How long have you had him and is he definitely a 'he'?

It could be a lot of things, but if he is seen by a vet and diagnosed with a specific problem then you will get endless advice and support here, so please keep us updated.

A trip to the vet is a good idea.
You can’t diagnose a problem any other way.
Hopefully it won’t be anything serious and he’ll be fine very soon.
Let us know how you get on

Thank you for the information. I have been worried about pregnancy for a while, but trying to sex an angry, long clawed boar is obviously not that easy, and people would think that I'm just being paranoid. Gary has been eating and drinking at the rate that my second guinea pig is. I got him from a local pet store on boxing day, so I have had him for around 2-3 months. Due to him being extremely fidgety and scratchy and overall hard to work with, we are unable to weigh him. Gross to say, but his poo seems fine, and there have been no sudden changes in diet. There have been no stomach upsets, he is excereeting as a guinea pig should, so I'm not sure of the problem. Taking him to the vet would be hard, as i'm a child, and my parents would think I was being paranoid or silly or caring too much, and not making them sound horrible, they would flat out ignore, or scold me. I'm really worried about him, so, with this new information, do you have any idea on what's wrong?

Welcome to the forum

I will try to keep you updated, and thanks for taking the time to reply :)

If you are still dependent on your parents they have a legal responsibility to provide vet care for any pet if required.

I get paranoid over nothing, so they would just think that I was overreacting or being scared about nothing. It probably is nothing, and I'm just being dumb

Please check out our sexing guide Sexing Guide and if necessary get your parents to help with handling to check the sex. You should never put two piggies together until you have confirmed the sex of both to ensure no pregnancies occur.

I know it doesn't help you right now but do you have a part time job or a weekend job so that you can out money aside to pay for vet costs which might make your parents more inclined to seek medical care? Between ages of 16 & 18 I worked in a toy shop every Sunday and late night shopping before Christmas to earn money.

I do not have a job, I'm not even a teenager. The pet shop said they were boars, my parents do not believe otherwise

Unfortunately your account will need to be removed. When registering for the forum you have circumvented the system by entering a false date of birth and members need to be over 16 years of age to use the forum. This will not prevent you in accessing our guides and many of the posts. If your piggy needs help your parents are welcome to come on to the forum to ask any questions but very seriously the piggies need sexing properly and health checking. Sows come into season within hours of giving birth so having missexed piggies runs the risk of back to back pregnancies

It’s relatively easy to tell an adult boar from a sow, the testicles are normally quite visible even without handling.
However as others have mentioned anything unusual should be seen by a vet. Perhaps show your parents this thread? They are legally required to provide veterinary care as they are legally the owners of the guinea pig.

Hi! Unfortunately it is impossible for us to tell you what is going on. It would be good to vet check, especially if it hasn't been a one-off.

Here is a link to a baby movement videos thread; does it look similar to this? https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/baby-movement-video.148858/

If you have a mis-sexed pair, then please open an ongoing support thread in our specially monitored pregnancy section and read up on our guides, which have been specifically written for members with an unplanned pregnancy and which cover the whole period. You can access our pregnancy/birth/baby and mother care advice via this link here: Pregnancy & Baby Care Guide's
Unfortunately you need to be registered to access this advice as we are a strictly non-breeding forum. Please ask one of your parent to register.
