What are different types of Guinea Pig Herds? How many males or females do you have or how many neutered and all? What are tips to bond herds! And can you tell me about yours! Please and thank you!

I could tell so many stories . I have owned 16 guinea pigs within the last eleven years.
Currently I have a group of three females and one neutered male.
The Ladies are 5 years, 2 years and 2 months old and the husboar is a bit older then 2 months.

I also had a boar group some years ago (all boars neutered, as it’s normal in Switzerland) and a totally mixed group.

The most important tip is patience. Bonding always takes time. Plus never separate during bonding process except there is (much) blood.

I had a really bad fight once between two boars of a boar trio, but after that they got along as if it never had happened. :)

I would actually always have the boars neutered, it doesn’t change their character but if they fell out they could be bonded with a girl right away.

How did you get on with this? Didnt think more than one male in the group of females would work very easily without risk of fights? Never had more than one male in my herd. What size enclosure did they have?

x

They were all neutered around three weeks old. They had around 5 or 6 square meters space during night and around 30 square meters during day. Plus the had lived together for more then two years when they met the girls.

I wouldn’t recommend such a group to inexperienced owners as there is a higher risk for fights.

Welcome to the forum @Lilguinea112816
I have a herd of 4 sows which is a result of bonding 2 pairs.
The bonding was more stressful for me than for them but it took a few days and they settled happily together.
