What is wrong with my male guinea pig? He's grunting, kinda hooting, and once so far he coughed, and when he coughed, he jumped..... Any idea what could be wrong with him? Answers are much appreciated!

It definitely sounds like he could have an upper respiratory infections and he will need to see a vet ASAP. Guinea pigs don't get 'colds' per se, but they can get lung infections that can get serious (even fatal) quickly if they aren't treated with antibiotics. Hopefully you can find someone to see him quickly, I know it's hard around the holidays but he really will do better the earlier treatment is started!

Yes, this sounds like an URI and an urgent vet visit is needed as piggies can go downhill incredibly quickly. Some vets are open on Sundays in the UK, like the ones attached to Pets at Home stores and even my exotic vet is open for a few hours on Sundays, so see if any are open in your area today. Otherwise contact the out of hours vet attached to your own practice - usually there is a number on their answerphone message.

Good luck with your boy!

I agree that a vet check is needed. Please let us know how you get on.
