i have seen many size hutches on the market and i just *** know what is **** for keeping pairs/trio's of piggies together, i am thinking about getting 3ftx2ft hutches for housing pairs, what do people think about this size? also what sizr hutch would b **** for a single piggie?:{:{:{:{:{:{

For a pair I think the standard or minimum requirement is a 5ft X 2ft

and You should house one Piggy in the same amount of space you would for two :)

3 x 2 is too small. The minimum for two pigs is 4ft x 2ft, or 8 square feet.

This size guide is very good

As you can see a single pig needs no less space than a pair ideally.

Many, many shop bought hutches are not the full 2ft deep and are instead 22", (not too bad) 20" (ok but not ideal) or even 18" or 16" - TOO SMALL! Seriously when you get two piggies trying to move past each other, you will see the issue. I own up to having a 4' x 16" double hutch as I didn't realise just how much difference it makes. It is (not that mummy DoeyL knows yet) destined to be made into a two storey hutch so it will have more room.

Making your own hutch is easier than you think and quite rewarding, I am in the process of this at the moment. It allows you to build exactly to your spec too :)

No it's only 4ft x 2ft according to the RSPCA, but bigger is better! :)

my plan is to house a colony of sows in a double story 6ftx2ft hutch, ive found a company who make them, there expensive but i want my piggies HAPPY :(|):(|):(|)

yes, minimum size is 4ft x 2ft for two

A 6ft x 2ft is a good size for 4 maybe, on one level to house more depends on if they use the ramp or not:))

i have been told that 6-8 sows will live happily in that size hutch

Is there any chance that your piggies could live indoors? If so, then a C+C cage is the answer! You can make it yourself with basic but purpose bought materials. It will be much cheaper than any other housing setup and you can adapt it easily to suit your evolving needs.

There is a gallery on C+C cages in the housing forum if you want to find out more.

Yeah if it's two storeys and they use the ramp then I'd say about 6 :)

Like 4 could happily fit in 6'X2' on one floor. Some people say that having a second storey doesn't make any difference, but I think it does :) Also it gives the pigs a chance to get away from the others if they like :)

I guess everyone has different opinions, but if you see them in there and it looks like enough room, then you have to go with your instincts. Take into consideration that you might put in things like tunnels and the guinea pigs might grow (if they're still young). :)
