Hi all

Just wanted to let you all know about a free information evening my vets are running on Wednesday January 23 at 7pm.

http://www.highcroftvet.co.uk/news/Guinea_Pig_Evening

If you're in and around Bristol that evening, please do book a place and come along. And tell all your Bristol-based pig-minded friends! The event needs everyone's support so that vets continue to see pigs and their people as important customers, keep on providing events such as this one and hopefully reaching a few folk who really need them. Every little helps, as they say!

Thanks :) And I promise I'm not on commission!

I'll be there! Highcroft are very good vets with an unusually high number of exotics vets! We don't have exotics specialists where I work, so we direct people to Highcroft instead.

If anyone in the Bristol area needs a lift, let me know!

Oh No ! any night but a Wednesday - have just started to back to latin and ballroom in Bristol on wednesdays

I've booked!

It would be wonderful if a good number of people could attend. More vets should offer events like this - I see plenty of notices for dog and cat evenings, and even a fair few for bunnies, which is great, but our piggies need some attention too!

Blimey, wish I was on commission! Thanks everyone for the support, hopefully it will be a good gathering and I'll see you there.

Tan - if this event is a success, then we'll get you at the next one ;)

Keeping this up for the Bristol are members - these events don't happen often enough, worth taking the invite up if you are lucky enough to be able to go.

Great idea Amanda! I'm seeing vet Jemma on Thursday with my two - I can ask her then.

ooh yeah! if you could! I have Jeff (neutered male with a cauliflower willy!) and Cameo (longhaired spayed female) that are very easy to handle. I also have Big Dave, an older neutered male just diagnosed with arthritis who is easy to handle, and Maggie...who is a bit more difficult :))

Such a good idea that the vets had it too :) One of their staff is bringing in their pigs for the evening. But thanks for the kind offer Amanda.

Vets were busy and short staffed this morning so I didn't feel right stopping to chat and taking up their appointment time. I have been making some notes about all the important things I hope she'll cover on the evening and I left those with her.

I did tell her I'd recruited a few of you and she seemed really pleased :)

What's on you list?

Everything :)

Animal Welfare Act, where to get pigs (hopefully promoting rescues), encouragement not to breed, groups and companionship, housing and bedding, diet, play and exercise, basic care, common health issues and a list of useful websites, including this one, of course!

Sounds great!

Obviously it's the vet's event so it's her choice what she covers but I've done my bit :)

I spoke to vet Jemma this morning - there are 18 people booked in, yey! Don't know if that means there's still space or not.

I read on Facebook this morning that there are a few places left so please do phone and book in if you're able to come along. See first page of thread for details and website :)

I've just called Highcroft, they have confirmed that this is still going ahead, despite the weather!

Thank you so much to those who were able come - I hope you enjoyed it and found it a worthwhile event :)

I was kinda nervous how it would go having 'sold' it to you all but I think it was great and I hope its the start of many more similar things.

I'll write a proper review in due course
