Hey
Just wondering does anyone have guinea pig insurance or am I being silly?
If you do can you tell me how much and where I can get it?
Thnx xx

Hi Jen

No, not silly at all - vets bills can really add up! But insurance is quite expensive - I don't have it, but you can get it for small furries. You'd probably be better off putting the same amount away in a 'guinea pot' every month! This should then cover any routine vets bills, hopefully.

If you do get it, check out a couple first and make sure it's a policy that will give lifetime cover, not annual - otherwise they exclude any conditions e.g if your pig had a lump removed, on an annual policy the next year they wouldn't cover any similar lumps, if you see what I mean.

I would do the "piggy pot" too.. You will find a lot of insurance have an excess which you have to pay before they do and its usually £50. Most check ups and medicine for pigs cost just below that or around the same price so you really wouldnt be saving much by having insurance...;)

i do the piggy pot, probably with insurance you will end up spending more, and excesses can be alot so most piggie bills dont cost that much in one transaction.

Just want to say thank you for this thread and everyones replies as I was thinking about pet insurance myself for my 2 after Connies problems but after reading this, I don't think i'll bother x

I do think that unless you have a dog or a cat or bigger then insurance is wasted money. EVen with rabbits if you have a rabbit pot you can usually save up enough if they have an accident and their medicine is usually are around the excess mark as well

I would say definitely put some money into a "guinea piggy bank" each month rather than taking out insurance. Insurances usually have excesses and you need to be very mindful of the small print.

Just a thought .... if you gets lots of money in your pot and have been lucky enough not to have to visit the vet, then you could buy a small treat for your piggies occasionally from it.
