Guinea Pig is loosing hair :(

Hello! My male guinea pig, Peanut, keeps biting at his back and pulling at hair. I don’t think it’s mites because his cage mate isn’t having any of the same symptoms. I noticed he’s losing some of his hair on his back. What’s going on?

There could be a number of reasons but a vet check would be wise.

Just because his cage mate doesn't have symptoms (yet) it doesn't mean it's not mites!

I’d have him vet checked in case he has mites

I completely agree with the others, he needs to see a vet for diagnosis and treatment and it could still be mites even if the cage mate isn’t scratching

I would definitely get him vet checked. It is perfectly possible for one piggy to have mites and the other not to have mites.

Please don’t treat on spec. Make sure you get a vet to confirm whether it is mites as if you treat the wrong condition you can make things much worse.
