He has been making this clicking noise for about a month now, we took him to the vets and she just gave us some Baytril but that has done nothing. He hasn't really been eating, but he is doing slightly better, we took him to the vets today and she has basically given up on us, he lost an awful lot of weight and is slowly putting it back on he was 0.88 and is now 0.93 ten days later which I am pleased with as he has not lost anymore, the vet seems to just want to put him to sleep, but he is so lively and bright in himself, she wont give us anymore antibiotics for the clicking and she wont give us anymore for the abscess type thing he has, he has had it for almost a year now it's sort of just a hard lump that has yellow puss coming from it and it usually turns into a hard scab. Is there anything I can do at home for him?
Help much appreciated :)

I am in Cheshire and have found somewhere that have experience with exotics so might give them a go :)

I've been to two vets in the last month, one was nice but inexperienced in guineas and the second was very experienced in guineas. It does make so much difference.

Good luck x

Yep I changed vet. It's unbelievable how little some of them know about GPs. My new vet knows SOOOO much more than my last vet and will even listen to everything I learn from the knowledgeable people on here too. He's even heard of this forum! DO try another vet. I'm sure there's a list of cavy savvy vets on here somewhere or someone near you may be able to recommend.

I agree- get a new vet! Some are not knowledgeable about guinea pigs but are still willing to take money from people... and some really do treat them as 'disposable' pets, which irks me to no end! This vet doesn't sound either knowledgeable or interested in improving your guinea pig's health- I hope another vet can give you some concrete answers. I've had the best luck with vets who specialize in exotics and small animals. It makes a huge difference!

Thanks for the replies :) I think I will phone the new vets I have found and get some more info about them as he also needs his back teeth filed every 4 or so months. I would feel happier leaving him with someone experienced in exotics and it they could file them while he is awake that would also be a bonus!
At the moment he is eating small amounts of fresh food and muesli and I am mushing up his nuggets and giving them to him on a syringe as he really likes taking them, I'm not forcing him, should I carry on with this or not, because the vet that didn't seem interested seamed to think it was wrong to give him the nuggets off of the syringe and told me to stop, even though he willingly takes them!
