My little man Rex had surgery on his abscess under his chin 6 days ago. I was told to keep him clean and in a clean environment and bedding till it heals. I am currently using fleece blankets with news paper underneath. For some reason he keeps laying in the same spot and he is covered in wee! I am worried about his wound and stitches. Should I bath him? I have changed the bedding twice today. I don't know what to do, any ideas?

Could you try using puppy pee pads as the pee soaks say better than fleece. I wouldn’t bath just bathe the area with saline and dry off.
Make sure you are weighing your pig and check he’s eating ok too.
I find that a pig sitting in one spot is still feeling unwell.

I have never heard of puppy pee pads. - I plan to weigh him tomorrow. - he is eating really well. - he seems almost 100% normal. He is going to the vet next week for a check up. His wee seems orange as well is that normal?

The pads can be bought from most pet stores they use them for dog training toilet habits and saving wet floors. Always good idea to have some around.
In terms of wee colour it can defo end what he’s eating, some veg can make the pee turn a darker colour. Stay away from say carrots or red peppers and keep an eye on water levels too for the time being. If your pig is also on any antibiotics/painkiller that could well also affect his gut.

Okay thank you! - yes he is on antibiotics.

Yep defo keep an eye on the veg, I’m inclined too Feed less veg when getting treatment and encourage more hay than usual. giving more Timothy hay etc. Encouragement to move in the enclosure too will help in regards to moving the food away from their preferred seating position.
Good luck x

I know not my thread but am I right thinking you can let the piggies lie direct on the pads. ?

Yep but a good sprinkling of hay is worth putting down on top also, discourage them trying to attack the pads too.
I agree. We doing all sorts of permutations with Cocoa as she loss use of her back legs and if she's in hay too much she gets wet and pads yummy yummy. :hb:
The balance is thin layer of hay. x

It's good to have a piece or two of VetBed for use after surgeries. It's really soft and fluffy so it feels nice under their feet and they wick great so the pee goes straight through.

I have a temporary foster with me at the moment who has had surgery to remove a toe about a fortnight ago. He's on VetBed and I think his foot is healing up really well.
