whilst in my local pets at home store i stumbled over some guinea pig leads!

My first thought to it was "why?" is it something worth having?

if i took my guineas out on a lead it would jump at the sound of everything and then would be stubborn and wont budge an inch due to fear!

Then you have the issue of cats and dogs! I'm sure the local cat down the road would love a side meal of cavie! :o

It just seemed pointless, a run imo is the best thing for them!

its like a ball... whats the point of having them out the cage just to be placed in a big round ball which is usually red or blue so causes even more lack of vision!

The lead doesnt give them any freedom, its too restricted and i wouldnt want to accidently tread on my poor ginea either! :o

Whats everyone elses opinion on the leads and would you get one?

I dont think I would,a rabbits ok on a lead i guess but also a piggy would look daft anyway and it would take forever to go walkies

err no, they do look sweet, but to be honest my lot wouldn't budge! Michelle (Michellemuffin) used to have a piggy on a lead :) Was soooo cute!

Had to have our cat on a lead for a while, but not again! ;)l

I actually bought one of those a while ago...it was a harness with a lead (leash we say here in the states lol) because my old rabbit had loved going for walks. Well my cavy HATED it...as soon as it was on him he FREAKED out and started running around so fast he crashed into a wall :-\ (and he's usually relatively calm). I was able to catch him and get it off him quickly. I promptly threw it away and would not recommend it for anyone...plus as you all said, even if a pig doesn't mind it on him too much he'd still not move much probably.

they would prob sit there and say " and you expect me to look like a poof with this on,and move at the same time? "

I can imagine Tonni saying that for sure!

a few yeras ago Carrie annes pig scooby would just sit he was the most laziest pig ever so I brought him a t shirt harness type lead, he was very comfortable in it plus he actually walked on the grass rather then sitting he was getting too chubby, he would walk and we would just keep him at a short distance never pulled or dragged it was basically to get him to move about and it worked , its never been used on any other pig but if the same situation cropped up again I would have no doubt in using it , its held closed by velcro so no nasty bits and he actually liked wearing it,

this photo was taken years ago and is my daughters beloved scooby, he would only get any excercise if he walked on the lead I say walk he would run and you just followed we used it purely to keep hold of him he took US for a walk, my daughter found scooby would not walk anywhere in his outdoor run he just lie down, so we got this body stocking type lead its like a t shirt and very comfy he would then get about on the grass as you can see getting his excerise and he loved it, he was NEVER EVER pulled and throughly loved it, in fact he wriggled like mad when he had to come in, we have not used it since and that was about 4 or 5 years ago, so it was brought purely for a purpose and it worked ,he got fit and lost his porky belly

I tried one on Billie and he just wriggled out of it in disgust

I'm not against them if the pig is happy. Mine squealed. freaked out and wriggled out of the one I got so I don't think I'll try that again!

awwww how cute is that piccy :o :o :o

Coco and biscuit used to have harness's with leads they were ok, but they hated them and it didnt fit them right. with cats in the garden and a dog next door, i cant risk free running. so i took them back.

I am generally against them. I think they are potentially dangerous as their main market is going to be kids, many of whom may yank the piggy as if it were a dog being trained to walk top heal. Poor piggys :'( I know you were no doub very gentle with yours though Michelle ;) You know they aren't dogs lol

DanzavaR - you know that guinea pigs should never be put in an excecise ball right due to the risk of spinal injuries, right? They are not hamsters.

i didnt say i put mine in a ball, i said how i disagree with them as said "Whats the point of having them out of the cage just to be put in a ball?"

when i had a hamster i refused to put her in a ball aswel! Its cruel.

If they are to be taken out of the cage then freedom of the floor or an outside run is great imo. Not placed inside a round cage because thats not being free.

just as a lead is also not being free as they are highly restricted.

scooby led us we never ever led him it was purely to get him some excercise the lazy so and so would never get any other wise, he actually loved it and it was used up until he died but I might add Ic an understand about kids "taking pigs for a walk" and agree but in this case scooby took us for a walk none of my other pigs have even seen it , so scooby was most definatly not highly restricted lol, as if and as for balls that is a definate no go for me,
