Hi,
My guinea pig has been loosing hair around his eyes. I think it is due to the liquid that has been coming out of his eyes (sorry not sure what words to use but like his been crying). It has been setting on his hair and causing it to fall out but I don't know why this has been happening. Do you think it could be a reaction to something or he is 'crying' due to an infection? He has had an infection in his mouth before which he had an operation on. I'm going to give him a bath today and clean his hair. Please let me know why this is happening.

Thank you.

You need to take your piggie to the vet as only they can diagnose the problem.
There can be any causes for watery eyes such as a cold, a scratch injury, something caught in the eye or a respiratory infection particularly if there are other symptoms all of which require treatment.
Let us know how you get on

The skin around the eyes is normal but crusty parts have set on the hair. I assumed it was from the fluid setting.

Welcome to the forum
I agree - a vet visit is in order for your peace of mind if nothing else

I agree, please have your piggy seen by a vet so that you can get on top of the problem quickly.

Have you managed to get a vet appointment?

Sorry I can’t answer your question - it’s outside my experience

Hi,
Sorry for not responding in a while and I am not sure if this chat is still active but I will give a quick update.

My Guinea Pig has been to the vets and two main problems have been identified:
- He is going blind in his eyes
- He is arthritic in all 4 legs

He has been given antibiotic for his eyes and painkiller at the moment for his arthritis. At the moment I also have him on critical care.

Thank you.

Sorry to hear this news.
I have a blind piggy - Merab developed cataracts and has been blind for some time now.
She still copes very well and has no trouble finding food.
She is also fine out playing but a bit slower and more cautious, but then she is 6.

If the arthritis pain can be controlled your boy should cope well.
