IMG_3947.webp IMG_3944.webp I have two guinea pigs, alpha and chary. Both male. I was grooming alpha and he's shedding a lot of fur and I don't know if it's a normal amount? And at his rear end, the fur is quite matted and it hurts to detangle or remove it (he ran away) when I attempted to detangle it, a red chunk just popped out and I'm awfully worried. His faeces has been quite reddish-brownish recently, it could be that. I don't know what to think of it all. Please help!

I would take him to a vet as it only takes a few days for things to seriously deteriorate. The matted fur could be his grease gland. If it's been left then the grease will have built up and matted his fur. It will be very uncomfortable hence your piggy running away and you might notice him itching more. Reddish faeces isn't normal and it should definitely be checked out.

I've just managed to detangle his fur with a comb, but I will get them both checked out. Thank you very much
