Hello, recently today I noticed that my guinea pig had a lot of fur surrounding her, and on her back and sides, it looks kind of like some fur is missing. Could this be a cause for concern, or is this normal? I have never seen her shed, and her son doesn't have any fur around him, so I don't think it is just shedding. She is acting completely normal.
Thanks

Hi. Sorry to hear this.
How old is she?
Is the skin inflamed or flaky?
Is she scratching or biting herself?
Basically she needs a vet visit as there are several possible diagnoses. Such as ovarian cysts, mites or fungal infection.
A vet can diagnose and provide the correct treatment, don't be tempted to treat at home.

She is about a year and a half old. I can't really see the skin, but the fur looks substantially thinner. She isn't scratching or biting any more than usual though. I would say she's biting less than normal. And I don't know if this is related, but I saw a few ants on her son, who is perfectly healthy.

Ok she is a bit young for cysts. I would definitely book her into the vets. Maybe take them both just in case?
P.s l assume her son is neutered!
