Hi, I just want to ask if it is normal that my GP is shedding/losing some hair. There are no bald spots but I'm just worried on why is he shedding. Its also hot here in the Philippines, I dont know if that is connected but I just want to add that. Thank you!

My guinea pigs get hair everywhere! Little hairs come off them sometimes. If it's just like that, and no clumps or very large amounts of fur are coming out, I would assume your piggie is just fine. @Wiebke might give you some more info.

Hi, thank you for that! I was starting to get worried

Hi!

Fungal and skin parasites generally cause bald patches, as do some other issues like ovarian cysts on the sides of the belly (by far not all cysts but it can be one of the symptoms) or mechanical abrasions.

If there is no visible hair loss, then you are likely dealing with shedding. Some piggies are more prone to it than others. It can be caused by sudden stress but also triggered by marked seasonal changes.

Please take the time to read our hot weather guide to help protect your piggy. The guide contains a list of measures you can take to support your piggy, from very simple ones to more expensive ones.
It is generally used to higher temperatures in a warmer country than the UK, but sudden spikes and prolonged heat waves are still very hard on guinea pigs who haven't evolved in tropical climates; and heat exhausting or stroke can still kill them. The guide also contains information on these problems and what you can do.
