Our Lucie, 6 year old abby/peruvian recently about a month ago developed a UTI, confirmed with a urine sample, extremely foul smelling urine, frequent urination, excessive thirst, etc. Diabetes was ruled out negative, X-Ray ruled out stones.
12 day course of Bactrim, still positive for UTI, now on Baytril. She was always a steady 1350 - 1400g. Since started on bactrim, she is a steady 1275-1320g. Her appetite is 100% normal, she is def drinking more but eating and acting the same.
A mass was felt around her ovaries, vet suspecting ovarian cysts, x-rays showed rule out ovarian cyst/rule out bladder tumor, ultrasound needed. She does not have the hair thinning consistent with ovarian cysts, but her nipples do seem swollen, although no discharge. Vet said weight loss isnt really common with ovarian cysts or UTI although I did read reports of weight loss on bactrim.
We are very very concerned with her weight loss, although it isnt really 100g weight loss and not 10% yet.
I have an ultrasound scheduled a very high end, exotic specialist vet, University of Pennsylvania Animal Hospital Sept 5th was the first date available.
Any opinions on what may be going on? We are very concerned. Due to her age, spay isn't really an option.
My suspicion is ovarian/bladder cancer due to the normal intake diet with weight loss.
