Hi, I am hoping someone could give me some advice or suggest a cavy savvy vet. I have had my 2 rescued boys for 6 months. I dont know their ages for definate but was told they were just under a year old when I got them. Recently, Harley has started losing weight although still active and eating well. My vet originally said just to monitor him as they could find nothing wrong. He got down to 750 g (was originally 1,200g) so they suggested having him in to check his teeth under GA. They did this nearly 2 weeks ago and found the teeth to be fine. Since then though, he barely eats and is lethargic. I am syringe feeding him every 3-4 hours. He has been back to the vet twice and is now on baytril in case of infection but no difference yet. Could he still be feeling the effects of the GA after all this time? He is still steadily losing weight, and although my vets are usually very good I am worried I am going to lose him with no idea of the cause.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hi! That is a major weight loss! Has he had a scan to see whether there is something else going on in his body or been checked for kidney failure or diabetes?
Here is our piggy savvy vet locator if you want to get another opinion. https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/pages/guinea-pig-vet-locator/

Until then, all you can do is to continue with the syringe feeding, but to be honest, he sounds like he is pretty far gone with whatever it is. :(

Thankyou for the info. He sadly had to be put to sleep due to kidney failure but it was good to be given some useful tips.

I am ever so sorry. :(
