Hi My 5 year old Guinea pig has lost 2 ounces of weight. I think that's about 57 or so grams. I took her to the vets and they found a small cyst but at the time she wasn't having any other complaints other than the dried nipples which is why I brought her there in the first place. Since March she lost 2 ounces. She is eating and drinking as normal and same activity level. When I called the vets at Pets at Home they said the weight loss could be from her scratching and treated her with mite treatment. I kinda feel like things went left and was wondering if I should seek a second opinion. My current vet that treats my dogs doesn't seem like he's too up on Guinea Pigs and everyone is saying that they are only treating emergencies right now. What should I do?

Start weighing her every day as that will give you a clear pattern of weight loss or gain.
If you are uncertain about your ve’s experience with guinea pigs then phone around to find one who is piggy savvy.
The vet locator may help - it’s at the top of the forum.

Even in this situation most vets will be happy to talk to you on the phone and take things from there.

I’m sure one of the health experts will be able to give more practical guidance

That's the problem when I go to the Vet Locater from this site the map blows up and doesn't give me anything in my area. I'm in Fordingbridge Hampshire. I called a couple of people in my area and they are only seeing emergency animals

My geography of Hampshire is a bit sketchy but how far are you from Swindon in Wiltshire?

I’ve found the attached for you. I know the others are far away but those are your options. EC697E1E-1E03-473B-9FC6-6B70AFCED43A.webpEBA35E6A-99F0-4F41-8F3B-C48AE80909E9.webp3A164168-4C3F-4955-AEEE-41CC0A15F334.webp5747F6A2-AB62-44AE-A3DD-E6ED9936526E.webp
