My guinea pig has a lump near her bum fairly close to her back leg Any idea what this could be or any suggestions thanks

Can you get to a guinea pig vet to get it checked? Its the only way you will know for sure. Can be a few things

Your piggy needs to see a vet for a proper diagnosis. It could be anything from a fatty lump to an abscess only a vet will be able to diagnose it with a hands on examination.

if it is a fatty lump how long would it take for it to go away? or does it require a treatment?

Unfortunately there is no way to know for sure without a vet assessment. It could be a benign fatty lump, an abscess, or even a tumor, so it's definitely best to get it assessed. Unfortunately there's really nothing you can do in the meantime. If it's benign, like a lipoma, it may be something that can just be left alone unless it grows to the point of interfering with mobility, but if it's an abscess or a malignant mass it may require more aggressive treatment.

The vets can get a diagnosis wrong too. Christian had a lump and I took him straight to the vet. It wasn't very big so the vet said it was most likely a benign lump and I was to keep an eye on it. It stayed the same size for ages and then it started to grow so I took him straight back to the vet. The vet this time did a needle aspiration and pulled out some smelly yellow gunk and I immediately booked him in for an op to have the abscess (as it turned out it was) removed. After 7 days the abscess had grown so much even the vet was surprised and it was a very difficult operation as the abscess had been there so long it had adhered to almost every internal structure including his femoral artery, his stomach, his penis shaft, etc. The vet almost phoned me twice for permission to PTS as it was a very difficult operation. But she perservered and saved my boy's life. In places the abscess was 1 cell thick and about to burst which would have been a horrendous death and painful death. Here is the abscess that was taken out of Christian

and here is his impressive scar

So you can't leave a lump.

Best of luck at the vets. If it is a fatty lump it won't go away. Fatty lumps are harmless as long as they don't grow so big they impede movement etc. I've opted for surgery to remove before as my late Peter had one underneath him and I was worried about it dragging along the ground. Other lumps can be abscesses or cysts. Usually an aspiration will confirm whether it is either of these or not as the inside is not usually bloody and abscesses absolutely stink whereas sebaceous cysts have thicker non smelly pus.

going in for surgery soon but trying to get the funds gonna be expensive so trying to get help

Good news! we found a no profit organization who will pay 250/300 (vet lowered price from 500 to 300) and we will pay the last 50.
We are booking her surgery for next week after that we will hopefully see her mischievious popcorning self again! of course she wont like me for a bit after because of antibiotics :D:inn::luv:;);):D:nod::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::love:
