Guinea Pig Magazines

I don't know of any guinea pig specific ones but they are featured in fur and feather. I will give pet gazette a call and see if they know of any.
 
I have just spoken to the lovely people at pet gazette and they said that there is not any out there. They have researched into publishing one but got real negative feedback mostly relating to the cost that general guinea pig owners (not us guinea pig lovers) would not buy it.

Pet Gazette have said that they will be doing articles on small animals in their quarterly magazine which is free to the trade industry and rescue centres.
 
Do you know who the publishers might be as pet gazette stated that they looked into one but decided against it. I'm happy to phone around publishers to find out but will need pointing in the right direction

I think we should have a TGPF Magazine! All profits to rescues, naturally. I'll be editor! :))
 
I'm sure I would read it too, if it was a Pet Lovers type mag. More likely to be taken over by breeding and showing though, possibly? xx
 
Comprehensive list of rescues, a few rescue sob stories and miracle recoveries, inspirational piggies, special Rainbow Bridge pages...my mind is off!
 
It's an excellent idea. There have been items on threads which are well worth having in paper form to refer back to - the Calcium balancing in diets, the respiratory illnesses, symptoms of various illnesses, signs of pregnancy in piggies, how to deal with impaction, how to wrap a piggie up easily, how to give syringe food easily, where to find treats for piggies - loads and loads. The forum wouldn't be diminished by this, personal experience and reassurance is invaluable. But it could be a downloable printable sheet that you could print and keep if you wanted to....featuring different useful things in different ones. I think it would be great. Do you have the time to do it? Would you be asking for articles? Is it possible?

It would make sense to have many of the forum stickies as articles, I do think that is a great idea.

I'm happy to stick it all together, do some articles, make up pages etc. and see about getting it printed. It won't be professionally published of course, but certainly a reference book/magazine of sorts would be useful - could even sell on eBay and that would then bring a wider public of piggie owners to the forum?

It'd be important to have articles from plenty of members, from whoever has the time to put such useful care/health information, rescue stories etc. together. I can do some but this would be a community project, an effort from all of us.

A lot to think about, plenty to discuss with those higher than ourselves on the forum and lots of ideas between us. I do, however, think it'd be a very worthwhile project!
 
There was a guinea pig magazine published in the US, I still have it here. The Winking Cavy Store sold it - the only place I have ever seen any piggie magazines!

AP, I heard Cavies magazine mentioned a few times but I believe it is mainly aimed at the show circuit, whether it is still published - haven't a clue!
 
I would like to contribute.

It might also specially feature a rescue in every edition and a newbie Q&A corner wouldn't be bad either!

WOW I'm in. What a fantastic idea. We would need to get it published and for us to purchase it and have it for sale in shops. I am sure that pet gazette would be very interested in helping us achieve this.
 
Publishing and selling in shops would carry a huge start up cost. Can I suggest a printable file, that could be paid for online by whoever wanted it, printed by a 'vanity' publisher and posted by them too? The start up cost would be less, the printing and distribution costs are sorted by the printers and it could be shipped worldwide, just as this forum is. You would lose some of the profit from each magazine printed - as it would go to the printers - but it would be more easily doable, could reach right around the world and there would still be profit to donate to rescues. What do you think?
