Hani has been making a weird hooting sound (usually only lasts about a few mins) she started yesterday and does it sometimes for a short time. Before yesterday she did it about 2 months ago for 1 day or so for short period of time (she also seems to sneeze a decent amount). She runs, eats, drinks and such normally, hasnt lost weight and her pee doesn't have anything off about it. I read about hooting and was shocked to read how serious it seems to be, heart issues and such. Also read that it might be just nose being blocked, Help !

I had a pig that did this at 6 - 7 years old. Never really bothered him atall. Just hooted here and there randomly, then wouldnt for months. G pigs have such narrow nasal passages, it could b just a bit of blockage . But i have heard it can be a heart condition. Dont worry atall

Okay thanks 😊 just wanted some reassurance, its 1.17 am here and i havent been able to sleep cause ive been worried

Yea I'm up syringe feeding my pig whos ill.I'm in uk. Just to add tho. If u are worried you could take your pig to a guinea pig vets just to make sure. As i dont want ti say dont worry and then it is something

Ill keep an eye on her, if she keeps doing it it or something ill bring her to the vet immediately 😊 hope your guinea pig will feel better soon ~!

Please have your piggy seen by a vet, hooting can be a sign of a respiratory infection which can get nasty very quickly.

@Micela What bedding do you use? Have you changed what you use for bedding, or her hay lately? It could be a reaction to the bedding/hay if you have changed it.

Does she have any discharge from her nose or eyes? If so she needs to see the vet today.

She hasn't done it today at all, i change her bedding twice a week and i use wood pallets, and no discharge from anywhere. Other than the rare hooting once in a while between months time, she acts completely fine
