Hello,
My 6 year old Guinea pig Rosey is having problems breathing. We have noticed that she is making a deep clicking noise when she breathes. What should we do and is there a explanation to what it is?

Thankyou <3

Take her to the vet ASAP as she may have respiratory tract infection. Does she have any discharge coming out of her nose?

Other symptoms of RTI are loss of appetite and sneezing. Sorry, I forgot to add!

Yes, I'm afraid RingoandOlly is correct, a vet is required. Could be a upper respiratory infection URI or a heart issue perhaps. Only a good vet will be able to diagnose correctly for you I'm afraid. Does your piggy have a friend they live with, are they suffering from any symptoms...hunched up? It's also worth considering the bedding and environment they are living in.

If you add your location, or use the vet locator at the top of the forum to locate a suitable cavy vet for you.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Thankyou for your fast responses!

I will take Rosey to the vets and I will consider the bedding she is on and I will change her onto fleece. She is with Jeff and Polly but I have checked them over and i can't hear anything from their breathing.
I will make sure I take her to the vets

Thankyou for your help <3

This can indicate a respiratory infection and needs to be checked out by the vet. Other symptoms can include watery nose and eyes, unwillingness to eat, and being really lethargic, but it's possible to have a respiratory infection without those symptoms being present (Hadley did last year- just wheeziness and improved with antibiotics.) Hope the vet can give you something to get her on the right track!
