Hi everyone. I am a new guinea pig owner and have had my lovely babies Percy, Ernie, Larry and Tufty for almost 3 months now. For the first 2 months, they all got on fine but the past few weeks, Larry and Percy have been doing what I establish as normal behaviour between 2 dominant boars. We decided to let them sort it out between themselves until it got too much last week and Larry had bites on his back and Percy had tears in his ear. Both boys are all healed up now and have been separated but then on Saturday (24th Nov) my younger sister was holding Larry and almost spontaneously he started bleeding on her. She freaked out a bit and so I took Larry from her and he was properly dripping blood and so I held him close to my chest to try and stop the bleeding with my jumper. We took him inside and managed to stop the bleeding with a piece of gauze and found out that one of his nails on his back foot had completely gone. We can't see any way his nail could have been pulled off. And then tonight while having piggy huggle time, we noticed another of his nails is a bit loose and blood stained? Does anyone know what could be going on?
