I'm new to the forum so sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place.

I'm struggling to think of a good name for my new guinea pig. He is half ginger, half white and has one pink ear and one ginger ear.
His brother who he shares a cage with is called Joey so it might be good if both their names begin with J.

I'd appreciate any suggestions! :)

My immediate thought was Jason - after one of the ginger-haired kids on The Waltons (the only other ginger boy on The Waltons was Ben).

Second thought was of Joey Ramone (though not ginger) - you could have Johnny, Dee Dee or Tommy after the other Ramones.

Going back to The Waltons, the other male Walton kids were John Boy and Jim Bob - neither were ginger but they both begin with J!

Thanks for all the ideas!

Hi!

You may find this link here helpful. It is an article series about naming with lots of ideas and resources that I have written for Guinea Pig Magazine. It also deals with the issue how soon to name a guinea pig or rather wait until you get to know them and their personality better so the piggy can kind of name itself.
Guinea Pig Names: considerations, solutions, inspiration and resources

Is your newbie living as a single or does he have a companion to live with? Please note that guinea pigs are group animals and not wired to live on their own. Sadly Switzerland is still the only country where it is forbidden by law to sell, adopt or own single group animals, expressly including guinea pigs.
Companionship

You may find our new owners guide collection very helpful. The naming article as well as the companionship article are both part of it, together with lots of settling in and making friends tips (including a spot of guinea pig whispering), housing, diet and care; understanding behaviour, learning what is normal and not and when to see a vet.

All the best for getting to know your little chap and making him happy. Please make sure first and foremost that he is indeed a 'he'!
Here are our tips on what to look out for in new guinea pigs in order to avoid some nasty suprises, including sexing any new piggies: What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)
