I'm getting guinea pigs soon and they will be living in our living room. At night it's pretty dark since there are no street lamps on that side of the house. Do guinea pigs need a little light, or are they OK in the dark? I know they don't sleep solid through the whole night, and will still need to find their water and hay, but can they manage on smell alone?

I think they would be fine in the dark- my guinea pigs occupy my bedroom so at night the lights are off and curtains closes and they find their way around ok. I've heard that guinea pigs sight isn't great anyway and they more rely on their smell and hearing. :)

My piggies are kept in my room too and they're fine with the light off. In fact, they are more active at night than in the day. They chew their toys and scurry around all night long - this IS a good thing as it means they are happy but they are quite a distraction from sleep :)

My guinea pig is in a shed, it is mostly dark. They are fine in the dark once they remember where things are in the cage. In light guinea pigs are cant see well as well so they will use smell and hearing to get their way through the cage x

Mine are fine in the dark. Our family room is downstairs with only bay windows for natural light, so it is really dark when the lights go out at night. They have always been fine.
