Hi
My guinea pig doesnt seem to be eating very much. She lost her cage mate about 3 weeks ago but they never really got along so she wasnt too upset. She was a little stressed at first but seems to be happy and normal. Since she lost her cage mate i have been holding her every day for about 45mins and giving her some grass which she gobbles down.

Yesterday i gave her some grass and she had a little bit but didnt seem intrested i assumed it was bc she was fed up of it. She had 1 piece of cucumber instead. She wasnt too intrested in her food this morning she had a bit. Just now i offered her some cucumber which she had just under one slice.
I checked her front teeth and they seem fine. Shes drinking as normal and licking her mineral lick. She seems her self mostly maybe just a little off. I checked her cage and she doesnt seem to have pooped very much. One poop was softer that usual and sort of joined to a couple of others.
Any ideas as to what this could be?
(I'm hoping to get an appointment at the vets with her tomorrow. )

Hi and welcome

I am very sorry about your loss.

Good that you are having your girl vet checked.

The stress of losing a companion can unfortunately lower the immune system and bring underlying issues to the fore, so it is good that you have her checked out.

If she is having soft poos, please take her off any fresh food for 24 hours until after the poos have firmed up again. Weigh her daily at the same time instead of weekly and if necessary top her off with mushed pellets or recovery formula if you have that at home, as much as she will take once she has lost more than 50g. Hopefully it is just a little tummy upset that rights itself on its own.

Please make sure that your girl has an unlimited supply of good hay (which should make 80% or more of the daily food intake), a balanced veg diet and only a small amount of pellets. With a good belanced diet, any mineral lick should be unnecessary and be ignored by the piggies.

Thank you so much
Ive just given her some more dry food which she has had some of and some more hay which again she had some more of.
Hopefully she will be ok :)
Thanks
