Hi smokey has not eaten any fresh greens last night or today he is still drinking and losing fur

Hey,

I'm not an expert, but I know if a guinea isn't eating it is not a good sign. I would call a 24 hour vet and tell them whats going on, they may want you to go in there and then or book you a slot for the morning. But I do think its really very important to call a vet asap.

Hope your ok, and that your little piggy is ok too. Let me know how it goes?

He has been eating today just not as much as normal going to weigh him tonight

I have managed to get smokey to eat 2 romain lettuce leaves and have seem him eating hay have filled water bottle to see if he is drinking I have noticed his poops are about half the normal size his weight is 1040g will check again tommorow
On the plus side I have bathed both smokey and bud tonight set them down for some veg and they didn't chatter at each other they have been having a bit of a problem with mites and bud has had fungal infection since then they have been fighting I had to seperate them but tonight they were out for 30 mins and didn't bother each other at all think I might be getting somewhere buds seizures have stopped they have both stopped itching but smokey is still moulting hair dont know if this is to do with mites or the above problem

A vet will usualy prescribe mites treatment for both piggies if they had been living together.

Please have your piggies seen by a vet. If you are not confident your vet is cavvy savvy we may be able to help you find a new one.

Then if they have had the full treatment there should be no more hairloss/itchiness.

If this is continuing then the problem is likely to be fungal which requires a different treatment and vet diagnosis.

The reason his poops is half the size is because he isn't eating enough. Do you know his weight before tonight?

Jacob didnt eat much on Saturday, on Sunday he was very quiet and hardly ate or drank anything, got him straight to the vets on Monday, everything checked out fine except when they went to check his teeth they found a huge amount of dry food compacted into the roof of his mouth and around his molars! It was from the yellow flakes in a certain brand of dry food that he was partial to.

It took 15 minutes for the vet to clear it all, his gums were ulcerated underneath it all, he is on antibiotic and we are syringe feeding him Critical Care and extra water to rehydrate him. He is brightening up but his mouth must be so sore.

The message is get a piggie to the vet asap if there is a change in its eating habits, they go downhill very quickly.
