i wonder how many guinea pigs every one has.{:| whats the most common number? post a reply and if someone has already replied the same amount as you then click the thanks button rather then post another one.

None yet, getting 2 soon though :)

Used to have around 40+ turtles of various breeds when we ran a rescue. Including a huge snapping turtle that required very specialised care.

The snapper looked pretty much exactly like this one. Could do some damage if it decided to take a chunk out of you.

Turtles require much more care in general than guinea pigs, so 40 is a LOT! :(|)

Most of the turtles we had were rescued personally (lots of wading around in canals and lakes!), and had a lot of medical problems when they first came in. Some were just dumped on the doorstep. Often nearly dead. We had one called lumpy (a female red ear), who I loved dearly. Came to us almost dead with a horribly deformed shell from the terrible treatment she had suffered. The shell was like sponge from calcium deficiency. She gained in health and her shell hardened with lumps all over it (hence the name). She lived a few more years with good treatment, and was one of the few turtles I have even seen who actually seemed to like her handler. She was lovely and I miss her.

That snapper would go after small alligators in the wild. Pretty dangerous animal.

/hijack over

Is taking a turtle from its natural home in a lake really a rescue? Some wild turtles live good lives, in fact here where I live one cannot legally take up certain kinds of turtles from their native habitats.

We are talking about the UK here. Turtles are certainly not native and cannot survive in the wild due to the temperature amongst many other things. These are animals which have been dumped in British waterways and who suffer a slow death there. Of course I would not consider taking an animal from its natural home a rescue. I would not do such a thing either.

Where do you live? This being a UK forum I took it for granted that people would guess I was talking about the UK. It seems not. Unless you think that turtles can survive in the wild here? In which case you are very badly misinformed.

Friendswood, Texas ;)

Well, it may surprise you to learn that turtles are not native all over the world. And that in many parts the world they cannot survive if placed in the wild. In fact it is illegal to dump them in waterways in the UK. It is also very cruel indeed. I didn't see you saying anything similar when someone posted a thread about rescuing guinea pigs from a field in Surrey. Same situation, same cruelty, same need for someone to step in and set up a rescue.

Maybe you should consider things a little more before you imply someone is committing illegal and cruel acts. They might find it somewhat offensive.

what breeds are the 8?

how many piggies have you ever had?

40 turtles DE, that's some splashing! I don't know much about turtles but I reckon your 2 piggies when you get them, will give the turtles a run for their money when making noise for their dinner :p

I had 6 boys when i got 4 fosters, 2 girls 2 boys, so I had 10. The girls went to their new home, and i ended up with the boys.. naughty me lol.. so i had 8. At the time we also had 10 bunnies, a cat a dog, and 2 tanks of fish.. so was pretty busy :))

right now i just have the boys but lots of other animals. 3 dogs, 30 chickens, 2 guineapigs, oh and our guinea fowl.

Yeah, they will be noisier for sure. Turtles don't really make any noise at all. Though all the water pumps we had running in the house did add up!

we have chooks too! Only 16 though ;) - a mixture of hybrids and pure breeds. I am envious of your set up! I was considering quail as well but at present have settled with the chooks, bunnies, piggies and cat! I am desperate for a dog but my lifestyle doesn't allow for it
