I would like to nominate Poppet. After he sister Toffee died in March, Poppet went off her food. Since then she has had dental problems and has gone from weighing about 1.1kg to just 600g. She is almost totally syringe fed and I get up in the night to feed her too.
Poppet has to be the most friendly piggy ever. She jumps out of her cage and follows me around the room. She even tries to hang on to my leg!
Poppet has been the one who has really kept me going since Schmichael died. In fact I don't know what I would have done without her. When I felt so very sad without my boy and didn't feel like doing anything, she needed me to be there for her! All my piggies are special, but I think the bond which has formed between me and Poppet is so incredibly close.
I would like to nominate my ever so handsome boar Bertie.
He is my first ever boar and was rescued by the RSPCA. He was being kept in horrendous foul conditions with a rabbit who bullied him (he has the battered ears to show this). He was neglected and never allowed the company of other piggies. Luckily, RSPCA inspectors had the power to remove all the animals in the house.
We got him neutered and, for the 4 weeks after, he lived inside with us. He is such a friendly boy who loves his chin being rubbed and has the most gorgeous piggy lips! (see below!)
He is now living with 6 sows and is having the time of his life! He deserves it
I would like to nominate Captain Jack Sparrow for Guinea Pig of the Month. He came to me a few weeks ago, he is 5 years old and had never had a name but now he has 3 names! He is such a friendly boy, he's got a huge character and is currently living in my lounge and is my TV lap pig!
I would like to nominate Toffee who died a couple of weeks ago at the grand old age of 61/2. When she was younger she was a right madam and never liked being handled. To get her up and down the garden to her run she travelled by tunnel. She climbed in the tunnel, I carried the tunnel and she climbed out the other end. As she got older she became blind and deaf but suddenly started enjoying being picked up and cuddled. She really mellowed with old age.
I would like to nominate EVIE our current sponsor pig. (Although she isn't available for rehoming as she lives here at the rescue with us.)
She was dumped in a cardboard box at another animal shelter along with 7 other guinea pigs. Obviously we know nothing about her background or her age but she was quite poorly on arrival and so I agreed to offer her a forever home with us. Sadly two of the other pigs from the same group have died so we are very fortunate to still have Evie.
She came in weighing just 695g and very underweight, it's a struggle to maintain her weight but I have managed to get her weight up a bit.
She had on arrival lice/mites/bumblefoot/mouth sores/scabby ears/vaginal discharge/cystitis/deformed toes/thrush/a small cyst/diarrhoea/poor appetite/stiff hind legs/a dirty bottom/cataracts in one eye and she is blind in the other -- other than that she was fine ! I'm pretty sure she is deaf too!
She lives in her own little world but has bonded well with her two hutch mates Norman and Cloud. She is a very calm and serene pig, never ever objects to anything and is always just so grateful for anything I do for her. She is one of life's delights and I love her very much.
This is going to be sooo hard again! They all deserve to win! Their stories are sad, yet encouraging, and they are ALL very cute! I don't have the slightest idea who to vote for! :Ayociexp113:
Finding out he might be diabetic was a huge shock and gutted me. But i know me and him can get through it and i will do everything i can to make him better and i know he will be strong.
Jasper came to me from Helen as a foster pig in February 2008. We found a home for him in Worcester and we took him down there. Jasper was special to us and I didn't want to part with him but at the time I had no space for another boar so felt it was best to give him a decent home.
Sadly Jasper had to be rehomed again because his owner moved home and couldn't take the pigs so he came back today! I thought he would be skittish but as soon as he heard my voice he seemed to have a smile on his face.
I feel he has been through a lot though nobody's fault, just circumstances but he is here now and here he will stay. I absolutly adore all my pigs but Jasper is special, he's my little mate and is so gentle and loving.
