Hi, i have 5 male guinea pigs all living together, 2 are over a year old now, Barney and Ralph, and 3 are about 10-11 weeks old, Doogle, Humphrey and Jones. Just wanted to hear peoples opinions on their accomodation, they have an L shape hutch on one level which is about 9 x 2ft, and then ramps up to a 4x2ft hutch, so lots of space i think, they certainly love it and they have plenty of places to escape from each other if they want too.

What do you think?

Awwwwww what beautiful boars(and a lovely home too!) x) I keep my two boys in a shed, they have free range of the shed floor and their double hutch...its lovely seeing them enjoying the space isnt it? :) Five boars! Thats amazing, do they all get on well together? :)

What a fab setup, although I would be very worried about fallouts. Once the babies get older and hit the hormones. They may very well fallout.

I imagine you have added 3 babies to a bonded pair?

Make sure they all have a bowl each to reduce squabbles.

Great set up, lovely boys. Just a note that sawdust can give guineas respiratory problems so it's best not to use it. Have a look around on the forum for ideas of alternatives :)) x

Wow, it looks great. Barney is gorgeous! I hope they manage to get through the hormones and stay as a 5-piece. I love big groups of piggies.

Thanks for the replys, some interesting responses, what could i use for an alternative bedding? the group gets on really well now, no fighting at all, and will all happily eat out the same bowl. However i have 2 feed pots, and 2 water bottles, 2 hay racks and their vedge daily is spread everywhere so they have their own bit. However if they do fight when older i will make seperate accomodation. Wont be a problem just hope i wont need too.

I think it depends on the shavings you use, some are more dusty than others, some pigs do fine with shavings :)

I hope your boys do all stay friends, some people do have 5 together fine, and they have loads of space :) But like you said, you can give them separate accomodation so not a problem. It's worth a try having them all together :)

Their set up is really cool :)

Thanks really appreciate everyones kind comments. They seem fine with the shavings :) so shall leave them to it :)

Thanks everyone :) I'm going to make another raised up bit on the left handside so if they do start fighting i can keep the origonal boys on the left and 3 new on the right.

all my guineas 19 of them are on shavings and so have all my rescues all have been fine on shavings, some guineas get breathing problems or skin problems but all the ones passed through my rescue 140 have never had a problem on shavings, if i have fungal guineas then they go on newspaper and hay in a hay rack.

or preg or guineas that are unwell go on vet bed x
