Junior Guinea Pig
Hi everyone,
My very loved piggie Rexy is nearing the end i’m afraid. I’ve been on holiday since Sunday and so the guinea pigs have been staying with a friend for the week, and unfortunately my 7 year old pig Rexy is really really not doing well. Last Wednesday we took her to the Vet as she was lethargic, wasn’t cleaning herself and had lost over 100g (down to 700g). She is on a strong dose of antibiotics and metecam and liquid food but i got a call today saying she is barely moving and has lost a significant amount of weight. My friend has been so good with her and i feel awful, Rexy is now down to about 500g, extremely weak, and not eating anything or moving. What also broke my heart is the fact my other pig Pepper has apparently not left her alone, when they usually can’t stand eachother!
I was sent a video of Rexy and my heart just sunk, she looks completely like a skeleton and is barely moving her head, even though my friend is feeding her hourly and giving her endless cuddles. She is very old and the antibiotics don’t seem to be doing anything, so maybe it is her time but i just feel so sad.
The worst thing is i’m home now, but can’t collect the guinea pigs until Saturday, as i can’t drive so i’m stuck here helpless.
I desperately want Rexy to recover but maybe it is just her time, and we can’t do anything about it. I’m at a loss what to do, i can go and see them tomorrow but part of me doesn’t want to see Rexy in the state she is, as it’s truly truly awful
