Has anyone bought guinea pig pellets from Charnwood Milling? Are they good for your guinea pig? I was recommended to get those because they have high vitamin C but is the Calcium too high ?

:D Can't say that I have ever heard of Charnwood Milling pellets. Can you tell us what the calcium levels are? What are the main ingredients?

The list of ingredients is as follows:

Alfalfa nuts

Cooked wheat meal

Wheat

Hi pro soya meal

Full fat soya meal

Oatfeed pellets

Chopped straw

Oats

Grass meal

Dicalcium phosphate

Molasses

Soya oil

Supplement

Mycotoxin binder

Salt

Vitamin C

Methionine

Calcium is 0.95%
I got this information directly from charnwood milling via email

I would say that both molasses( a form of sugar) and salt are not very healthy ingredients for guinea pigs, but would welcome input from other, more experienced, forum members.

Not a brand I have come across yet. From the ingredients they seem similar to Burgess etc as they have molasses and alfalfa. I can look into this more tomorrow if needed as I am out for the evening shortly.

Thank you so much everyone for all your help. I just want the best for my boys . You are all very kind

We'll wait for Helen to answer this thread as she is our expert on pellets.

Are you in the UK @Kikka ?

I tend to recommend grainless pellets over any others but appreciate that not all pigs take to them. I have been told that Harringtons are the "best of the rest" as they don't have Alfalfa in them.

Here are the grainless pellets I recommend:

Bunny GuineaPigDream BASIC | Free P&P on orders £29+ at zooplus!

Vitakraft Emotion Professional Prebiotic Guinea Pig

JR Farm Grainless Complete Guinea Pig | Free P&P £29+ at zooplus!

I have also tried mine on these recently and they did seem to like them

Rosewood Naturals Meadow Menu Grain Free Guinea Pig 9kg | Pets At Home

Here are the Harringtons pellets

I am putting together a pellet sticky but it is slow progress due to me needing to fit it in on my lunchbreaks at work.
