Guinea Pig Pellets

If cavy capers rescue come back and say no. I might have a look at pets at home adoption or speak to them in store to see if they will sell me one

You have tried that though and it hasn’t worked out so far.
Plus the risk is all on you then - if the bonding fails you are then left with two piggies who need to live separate but side by side and a hutch will not work for that

If they say a 4ft is too small, can you buy a 5ft instead? That would be better all round

I don’t know what else to do then . A lot of the centres hear rehome them on pairs

They are a super busy rescue so can sometimes take a while to respond. I’d wait to hear what they say first.

I provide a 6x2 C&C cage for my two piggies who live indoors. I don’t know what the set requirements are for a rescue but it’s to ensure the best quality of life for the guinea pigs they help re-home.

My mum has sent off the pics and hutch measurements to cavy capers but she has a feeling they will say no my hutch dosent quite met there requirements. I’m not sure what else I can do as I’ve really tried 😢

I know you wrote you don't really have space for a 5ft hutch, but I would suggest that you rearrange somehow and make space! It is for the good of your guineas.

Been there btw, had to make more space.

It’s the finances as well I’ve just recently bought a new hutch for tango.

I have to agree - getting a 5ft hutch or move them inside into a 4x2 (150x70cm) c&c cage is probably going to be the quickest way to get her a new friend.

Alternatively you are just going to have to wait for one to come up online or for adoption at pets at home. The issue still remains that a 4ft hutch, while ok, is still going to be a bit on the tight side for two sows
As I have said before, this is the riskier option as if the bonding does fail then you are going to have to have two hutches (so that will end up taking up even more space than one 5ft hutch will) with one piggy in each; and hutches will mean both piggies are alone as you won’t be able to configure it properly to enable them to interact

Rearrange in what way

This would be impossible for us to help with given we don’t have visual access to your space.
I know she is outside so can you post a picture of where her hutch is?
You only need a space in your garden which is 12 inches wider than you have now to fit in a 5ft hutch

I think you’ve said you’ve got an indoor cage and the outdoor hutch.

What are the measurements of the indoor cage?

Also once you have made more space and got a bigger hutch or c&c for inside, you can try and sell Tango's new hutch to try and get some of the money back. It's unfortunate but we all learn the hard way sometimes.

I think the cage size is 120 or slightly bigger

learn the hard way sometimes.

I don’t really want to keep them indoors I prefer keeping them outdoors or in the winter in my garage . I only have limited space in my house or garden

Ok so 120 is 4ft, so if the rescue reject the outdoor hutch then they will also reject the indoor cage.

That’s absolutely fine.
Perhaps you can look at moving some garden or garage items around to make that extra 12 inches of space to fit in a 5ft.
We can only make suggestions given we cannot see the space you have.

If it really isn’t going to be possible and the rescue reject, then you will just need to keep waiting until a piggy comes up somewhere else

That’s my indoor cage . Tangos hutch and run

I really don’t want this to come across as negative - you are a wonderful owner and you are doing a great job, we all just want to help you - but from the rescue approving the accommodation point of view, I can see several issues with this.

Unfortunately, I would steer anyone away from that that type of hutch: the two main issues are that it isn’t big enough and it isn’t predator proof (the bar spacing is far too big to keep them safe inside - rats, stoats etc will get in so easily).

It certainly does look like you have enough space to get a 5ft hutch outside.

The issue with the hutch being two storey is that the top level (although the top level of any two storey hutch doesn’t count towards space anyway) is pretty much useless - there is no space up there because such a large proportion is taken up by the ramp hole.

There needs to be two hides in the hutch at all times. This is the issue with it not quite being big enough in that you’re going to find it difficult to fit enough resources in the hutch.

The plastic hides are not ideal and ideally should be replaced with wooden hides which must have two exits.
Plastic isn’t the best thing to use outside - it gets too hot in summer and can cause condensation (and thus damp piggies) in winter. Wooden hides are best used outside.
They only have one exit. All hides should have two exits. She may have been ok with it with her previous cagemate but that does not mean it will work for a new one. A single exit hide can mean one piggy can trap the other inside with no other way out and that can cause fights.

You will need two water bottles (in fact you need to have two of everything in the cage) when she has a new friend.

The ramp is very steep and isn’t covered with a grip-aiding covering such as carpet or vetbed. Tango may be ok with it but it does not mean a new piggy is going to be. Piggies are not natural climbers

It is best to not use a food bowl at all. Scatter her veg and pellets in the hay to provide mental stimulation - that is very important particularly while she is alone. Eating from a bowl is a rather mindless activity so doesn’t keep her occupied

What are the measurements of the run?

When do you use the indoor cage?
Do you move the hutch into the garage?

I sometimes use the indoor cage in the winter to bring them inside but we move there hutch into the garage

I’m not sure my dad built it

Give it a measure!

Things like needing new two exit hides and extra resources are easy to over come but your fundamental issues, and those which a reputable rescue will be most likely to have issues with are the size and security of the hutch (and potentially the size of the run)

My mums neighbours run is alot smaller then my one and her guinea pigs live indoors in the same size indoor cage I have

That doesn’t mean it’s ok nor that the rescue will approve it

I would personally not have a run any smaller than 6x4ft.

It is so so good that you are asking for advice. Your guinea pig is very lucky to have such a caring person.

I hope that you are able to find a friend for Tango.

Yeah I’m just not really wanting to fork out the cost for another hutch etc
