hi, please can you help!

Before I start I will say I have taken my baby to the vet a few days ago for this problem and he is going back two days so he is getting vet advice! But I really want some second opinions.

Basically my boy is:
- neutered
- a skinny pig
- and I'm not sure of his age as he is rescued
- is on fleece bedding
- is on a low calcium diet (ever since I lost my darling Doris to a bladder stone my pigs have low calcium bottled water, and mainly romaine lettuce, cucumber, carrot, fruit and tomatoes with no spinach or kale at all)

We rescued him two years ago and he was in appalling condition with very bad bumble foot and just generally not great, with eye problems etc. (We actually took him the Cambridge cavy vets for his eye). Fast forward the two years and he has lived an extremely happy and healthy life! He gets the odd bumble foot flare up which I treat with Epsom salt soaks which have always cleared his feet a miracle.

Anyway to the here and now: within the last week EVERYTHING has gone down hill.. and fast! We noticed his penis was poking out. Straight away I soaked it in warm water and gave it a clean with some cotton pads.. there was something sticky on it that I cleaned (but surely this can't be boar glue if he is neutered?!) anyway I cleaned it and used a little bit of lube to try and pop it back in.. but it won't stay back in! It just comes back out. on top of that.. his feet are having the WORST flare up I have ever seen! So we took him straight to the vet, she prescribed baytril (for the feet and incase thhe penis is inflamed) and metacam for the pain on his feet. We go back in two days to provide a urine sample (to check for crystals) and check on the progress (which is not good as I don't feel it's working)

At the minute every night I am soaking his feet (as all four feet are inflamed and sore) in about a cm of warm Epsom salt water, and I'm washing his willy with cotton pads. I've also just ordered an ointment from gorgeous guineas.

But my main HUGE concern, is why does his willy look so scabby and funny coloured? I'm cleaning it so delicately but it has a big white line running down it and dark patches? I don't know what it is but he is neutured so I don't know if it can possibly be to do with semen?
I'm really freaking out about it!

He is peeing and pooping fine but he has lost weight. I give him daily vitamin C tablets from oxbow and every night he has a fresh fleece blanket that he sleeps in.

He is my absolute baby and I can't bear the thought that there is something seriously wrong that we don't know about.

I don't know what a healthy willy should look like and how bad his is. Please provide advice if you can :(

Oh your poor little skinny piggy! That looks so very sore! You are doing everything you can. It'll take a while to get better and see any progress. Can't advise you I'm afraid as never seen this problem before. Sending healing vibes your way @Booknerd x

Poor boy! It looks rather sore!

Neutered boars can still produce 'boar glue' (semen fluid) as my lady Nerys has once shown rather spectacularly on her nose where is was pretty impossible to remove (better not enquire just how it has got there). There is also a build of smegma, a combination of skin cells, oil and dirt in the penis shaft to the point where it can prevent a penis from retracting easily.

It looks like a prolapsed penis that has possibly become infected, or maybe it's just so swollen it won't go back in? I remember watching skinnypigs1 on youtube and her senior skinny boar 'Willy', he had a prolapsed penis and it looked just like this however it wasn't inflamed etc. I'm not experienced with this though, it's just what I've seen. Poor boy it does look terribly painful, I hope he heals up real fast :(

Oh goodness! Poor boy! Definetly a prolapsed penis. I was talking to a vet tech about it the other day as it happend to my friend's little boy. I don't know too much about it but I hope he gets better very soon!

Ouch that looks sore. Sorry I’ve not seen this before but I’m sending you healing vibes & I hope it gets sorted out soon. What’s his name? Poor little chap, get well soon  xx

Hi Wiebke thanks for the link I just read through it.

You can't really see it in the pictures, but it looks like inside the penis is a white strip, you can see in the entrance that it looks white inside and down the side is a hard feeling white strip. Do you think this could be a sperm rod? Or can neutured boys not get sperm rods

Also where I'm am soaking his four feet in Epsom water his penis is dangling into it as well. Do you think that's making it worse?

This morning his feet actually look a tiny bit better thank god, although the seem dry. While I'm waiting for the gorgeous guinea ointment do u know any safe moisturisers? I can get something today at lunch

Thank u so much for your help

Thank you, his name is Kojack (that's the name he had when we rescued him).

He is my absolute baby and my husband says I mollycoddle him too much! :wub:After they have their dinner he knows it's time for bed and I put down a blanket and he climbs in the I tuck him in and he makes a little cocoon :luv: I just love to mother him! Breaking my heart that he is so poorly at the minute

Oh my word! poor boy!
Thankfully, I’ve not had any experience with sore willies like this. There is a great link which is posted by Wiebke. I’ll tag @pig in the city as she is very knowledgeable too :)
Paws crossed for your poorly little chap x
Thank you!

Thanks, me too :(
I am keeping him dosed up on metacam while we find a solution so I hope he isn't in too much pain. Yesterday I sat in their bedroom for ages just listening to if he makes any uncomfortable/pain squeaks! I can't cope when my pigs are in pain :(

Ahhh Kojack you’re a gorgeous handsome boy and so loved. Come on try and get your willy and feet better. Your mummy slave is doing everything she can to help you. (I’m sorry I don’t know what moisturisers you can safely use on a piggy.) x

Also I have been cleaning with warm water and cotton pads but does anybody know of any soaps that are safe to use? I don't want to peel off any scabby flakey bits as that would make it sore but maybe if there is something soapy that is safe to use it would help to clean it. It's just so mangy I don't feel that warm water is cleaning it enough but it's hard to tell what is skin and what is not as his actual skin seems discoloured?

Yup it looks the same.

Coconut oil is ok.

When I clean Christian and Dennis's willies, I have hand warm water and a little splidge of gorgeous guineas shampoo and give it a little shoonsh around with my hand. Not sure if this is OK to use on broken skin though so perhaps best to check first. I also use cotton buds rather that cotton pads.

I wouldn't worry about the white line that's probably normal for him but the shabby area needs watching and checking in case of infection. You are doing all the right things x

Okay so update:
Today I bought some sensitive baby wash and tonight I'm going to give him and his willy a soak and gentle lather to see how that cleans him up. I don't know if I'm supposed to use that but I thought I could trial it. :( I also got some coconut oil (it's so expensive?!) and I will dab a small bit on his willy to help moisturise it (as well as his feet) as it seems flaky and I'm concerned the Epsom salt foot soaks are making his willy dry.

I will let you all know how we get on! Thanks for all your messages it really means a lot and I am so grateful x

I can’t add anything to what’s been suggested. Just wanted to offer support and to say what a cute chap he is and how lucky he is to be in the most caring of homes.

When I was treating a pig with bumblefoot I was told to limit the epsom salts to once a week or so as they're very drying. And if I'm correct skinnies are prone to dry skin. So maybe the salts aren't helping as much. It might be worth just using water to bathe his feet and penis.

I was told to use very dilute hibiscrub on my pigs feet. Not sure if it's okay to use on more sensitive areas.

It is expensive but you can use it all over for dry skin too and to moisterise feet. I think gorgeous guineas has stuff too. :) I'm not sure how their prices are though in regards to moisturiser.

Top Tip : pure coconut oil can be found in the beauty isle, cooking isle & world foods isle of your supermarket. It is most expensive in the beauty isle, then the cooking area - but way cheaper in the world foods isle. I bought a jar of KTC 500ml for about £3 from Sainsburys world foods isle a few weeks ago.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for all your help and advice!

Last night, after soaking his feet, I put him in warm water so he was all wet, lifted him out and put him on a towel on my lap, squirted a big blob of sensitive baby body wash on his willy and basically just larthered it up and massaged it in for a few minutes, then rinsed him off, it left his little bits really soft (and my hands too!) I then put some coconut oil on it (and on his feet) and put him back in a clean cage. He really perked up after doing that and seemed almost back to his old self (except the pain killers are contributing to that :( )

I'm going to do the same tonight and will post a new willy picture so u can all see the progress.

The skin around it is really saggy so I think everyone is right in thinking it is a prolapsed penis :( then back to the vets tomorrow!

I'm determined to get him better! Especially with all of you behind us and routing for us! Kojack is very grateful for all the well wishes, healing vibes and tips for his mummy! X
