Guinea Pig Pet Insurance

Hello again,

Just a quick question,

Is it worth taking out insurance on your piggy? If so, can anyone recommend a good company?
 
There are a couple of insurances for exotic pets around, but the recommendation on the boards is that it works just as well, if not better, if you set aside a regular sum every month in a piggy account to cover you for emergencies and operations/expensive treatment.
 
i have looked and have not found no one that insures piggiies unless i am wrong ones that do exotic ie snakes but dont know about piggies

Piggies count as "exotic pets"; "exotic vets" are better trained to deal with guinea pigs.
 
i do insure my chinchilla and the dogs of course, but not the piggies, i do try and save money every month, but mostly i ends up putting it back into my account!

Don't worry. I only found that out by accident.

I had no idea until I went into the vets a few months ago and saw a picture of a Guinea Pig on one of their "Exotic Pets" leaflet things.

You'd never guess they count as "exotic pets" would you?
They don't look it.
You always think parrots when someone says "exotic pets".

As for insurance. I was tempted myself but as already said, it's better to put back a sum each month in a special piggy account.
I put about £10 a week into a jar for emergencies. That goes for food, vets bills and all sorts. It's a good idea just have piggy savings.

The thing with insurance is, they sometimes only cover vets bills of a certain cost and they only cover certain injuries and so on. They can be tricky.
So you could end up with a sick piggy that doesn't fit in with the insurance pay outs.
I know they cover it if your piggy gets stolen...But to be honest...If someone pignapped one of my babies...I wouldn't want money 8...
 
I agree with the putting money aside idea.

You can always use it for your piggies, as some insurance companies don't cover certain things. Also, if you end up with lots of money in there, you can treat your piggies! Or yourself...
 
I did look into insuring the pigs many moons ago but it was so expensive that I decided to have a "piggy fund" into which I pop any spare cash I have at the end of the week/month. So far it has worked out really well, I've had a couple of really hefty bills in the past, £150 - £200, and have been pleased to have the piggy fund to fall back on.
 
god thats steep . hope nothing goes wrong with my babies you dont expect piggies to be much but i surpose with being small and if need op or some thing .
