Hi everyone, I have noticed today that my guinea pig's poo looks a bit wattery and is also a tad bit smelly.(image) I think it's because I recently added some carrots to their diet but not too sure so was wondering if any of you know what the real problem is. Thanks

Hi and welcome!

Sorry, but we can't tell you the cause of your problems. New foods can cause diarrhea, as can overfeeding veg.

Please take any piggy with soft poos of any fresh food until their poos have been firm again for 24-48 hours.
See a vet promptly if one of your piggies has diarrhea (runny poos), if your poos are not starting to get noticeably firmer again within 24 hours or if the problem recurs after reintroducing veg.

Please be aware that carrots are very high in sugar and fattening for piggies. In fact, carrots and other high sugar foods like sweetcorn can cause the normal fermentation in the gut to go overbalance more than including the much poo-pooed cabbage and broccoli in small amounts into your diet.

Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets (Please read the whole guide, including the treat chapter at the end)

Hi, the poops don't look particularly concerning but you can upset the gut balance a little when introducing new foods or feeding too many veg/watery veg. If they are becoming slightly runnier than take them off all veg until 24 hours after the poops return to normal. If you have a look in the guinea pig guides in the top bar we have one specifically for diet which gives amounts of each area to be fed with fibrous hay making up 80% of the diet
