Hey all! So, since moving my guinea pigs into the new cage they like to poop in one corner. Not unnatural but when I deep cleaned the cage I noticed that the droppings were piled on top of each other. It isn't diahrrea but it is soft hence the clumping together. Right after I put in the new fleece probably about a couple hours they had pooped again so much that it was clumped up in the same corner. I just took them to the vet a few weeks ago and I can't think of anything that could be causing it. Maybe they are getting too much vegetables?

Yep, could possibly be too many vegetables. I give veg twice daily one lot morning and one lot evening.

Red bell pepper slice each
1 ring of cucumber each
2 stems of coriander each
And sometimes add another like a few bits of celery each. Twice a day like above.

Try stopping any leafy greens until the poos go back to normal ☺ and maybe not cucumber either until you see an improvement

What about cilantro? They really like cilantro. They usually get morning and night veggies. They get 2 pieces of romaine lettuce one for each pig and usually bell pepper slices. I take it out after an hour and then they have pellets and hay. I did just introduce a new veg so that could be it to. I introduced a sugar snap. That could be it. They are acting normal. Eating hay and pellets as normal.

I think cilantro is coriander here in U.K.

I dont know what a sugar snap is. Romaine can cause soft poos. I wouldnt take the veg out, its needed for vit c

Hi! Please check whether the poos come out singly. Fresh moist poos will clump if a piggy then pees and sits on top of them. ;)
You have obviously got some very tidy ones that use a toilet corner!

Yes we find that the poops in the corner hay trays that have been piled up, peed on then sat on are always more clumped and soggy than individual poops scattered about.
Sugar snap pea pods shouldnt really cause soft poops unless you fed lots of them... probably 1 per pig is enough! The diet sounds good though, cilantro instead of lettuce sometimes is good, lots of vitamin C :)

Fresh cilantro/coriander you can feed 1-2 sprigs safely on a daily basis or feed a bit more at a time when you do not feed it daily.
You might find our sample diet helpful. I rotate the lettuce in the picture with other things - a little piece of carrot or sweetcorn once a week, a bit of tomato or fruit once a week or even occasionally a little kale or broccoli (no spring greens in that case). Or occasionally vary the coriander/cilantro with parsley, dill, mint or basil. You can replace the bean with a sugar snap pea if you like to vary that. The sample diet is not engraved in granite; it is there as a guide. ;)

Hi there,
I give my girls sugar snap peas, one each but not every day, they don't get soft poops. also i don't give to much Romamine lettuce but they do have red and green gem lettuces. I always fed them fresh vegetables morning and evening.

Hey all! Thanks for responding. Yeah that is possibly what's happening is them just peeing on it. Would make since because the others in the cage are solid. It just seems to be that spot. Lol.
