Hi I have a male guinea pig who isn't eating much and seems to sleep a lot which isn't usually like him at all I have stepped in with syringe feeding he seems to having poo trouble he's been out the cage tonight and on one of the mats was smears of poo and also a little blood ( iam of course going to take him to a vet) would just like some advice or what it may be thanks

It could be any number of things, only a vet can advise, when are you taking him? If you can get him seen tomorrow that would be the best thing, as any blood being passed needs investigating :)

Please have him seen tomorrow if possible; blood in poos equals definitely a prompt vet trip. It is at this stage impossible to say whether it is gut related or urinary tract system related and requires a careful examination.

All the best! Good that you have stepped in promptly with syringe feeding and watering.

Let us know how he gets on.
I hope the vet can find the problem and he is feeling better soon.

Fingers crossed! Have there been more funny poos and blood overnight?

The vet couldn't see anything seriously wrong he's given antibiotics and he's to back if he doesn't pick up he's not pooped at all just little smears but hasn't been anymore blood

Under his mouth is all wet when I've got him out the cage tonight any ideas what that is about please he hasn't had any water and his bottle is still the same mark (I have just given him a drink by syringe)

I agree - did the vet check the teeth, especially the crucial back teeth? A wet chin is usually a sign that the premolars have overgrown and are forming a bridge over the tongue, preventing the guinea pig from chewing and swallowing. Digestive problems are secondary to not enough food coming through.

Please weigh daily at the same time and syringe feed/water to make sure that your guinea pig is getting enough food until it can have the teeth checked and treated by a competent vet.
